JFK Conspiracy Theories at 50
How the Skeptics Got It Wrong and Why It Matters

Kelly Reads and Responds to Reitzes' Skeptic Essay

Congratulations David, getting it published is an achievement in itself, and quoting the publisher Michael Shermer, - "...the point is to use critical thinking to properly access the evidence,.." must have helped.

While David Lifton has also read it and considers it superficial hogwash and balloney, I think it is a good start for beginners - as an overall synopsis, though as Lifton points out, it only deals with
decades old issues, most of which have been satisfied years ago. DSL, like most real researchers, is too busy to stop doing serious work on the subject to respond in full, but I'll give it a go.

David, knowing you since before you changed your stripes I thought it would be all old hat but you even surprised me with the RFK quote:

"You know that fella Harvey Lee Oswald, whatever his name is, set something loose in this country,"

and in writing it I'm sure you had to twitch when John Armstrong pinched you.

Well you can't argue with that, Ozzie the Rabbit certainly did set something loose in this country, and I follow you without interuption up until you make the statement - "...careful and sober analysis of the evidence affirms the (Warren) Commission's conclusions and vanquishes the arguments of the skeptics."

Wooohhh, there David, you didn't footnote that item, where did you get that?

"Careful and sober,...affirms and vanquishes..." are strong words and clearly untrue in the context you put them.

You quote Shermer and threaten to properly assess the evidence, but then go into a litanny of descriptions of conspiracy theories and those who espouse them - taking first aim at Jeff Morley, currently the most popular whipping boy simply because he is one of the most
objective and respected, and Vince Salandria, the original Skeptic. Rather than just take your word for it, people should check out the web presence of both Morley and Salandria, and pay close attention to what they say because both of whom provide key insights into important aspects of the assassination.

Though you don't mention it, Morley is one of the best at doing what you ask - "distinguishing verifiable evidence from idle speculation," (and he does so routinely at JFKFacts.com). How do you managed to mention Morley without saying a peep about his FOIA suit against the CIA? - and its here in the article that you should have called for the release of all the assassination records that remain sealed.

And Dave, your use of Hugh Aynesworth as a source should have come with a qualifier, as he is not only a living witness to the scenes of many crimes - he is also a witting CIA asset who is known to have, in conjunction with another CIA asset (Joe Goulden), promoted disinformation. You quote Aynesworth as saying that witnesses "made up things" from the get go, but fail to note that he was one of the reporters that passed on Oswald's fake FBI number, a number that he had made up.

Because some witness testimony has been shown to be wrong, and Aynesworth interviewed witnesses on the Grassy Knoll who made things up, you dismiss all witness testimony, and then extend that to all the Parkland witnesses because they saw entrance wounds to the front and exit wound in the back. Secret Service agent Clint Hill also saw a gaping hole in the back of JFK's head, while he was still in the car and when he was in the casket. Dissmissing all witness reports because some have been shown to be wrong is some extension in logic.

At that point you should have questioned why they don't just dig up the body today and give JFK the proper forensic autopsy he should have.

And Dave, it just isn't true that "...the critical point has always been whether there was a second gunman."

No it isn't, the case for conspiracy does not rest with multiple gunman, as one good one would do - a real good professional assassin - but those who claim Lee Harvey Oswald killed JFK all by his lonesome - a major accomplishment -  but those who claim he did so illogically portray him as a deranged loser. How come he's the loner and looser and not the world's greatest assassin that he is if he did and did it alone?

Rather than the sober analysis of the evidence we get a broad outline of a half dozen now defunct conspiracy theories - count the gunman in Moorman, Tramps Like Us, Umbrella Man and Mysterious Deaths.

One day at Dealey Plaza a complete stranger showed me a newspaper photo of the original Moorman photo and what struck me was the clearly observable brain, flesh and blood matter that could be seen sprayed like in a Quintin Tarentino movie, which could be used for blood splatter anaylsis if a clear copy of the orignal still shows it.

And Dave, the Umbrella Man's excuse doesn't mean it wasn't true - bringing up appeasement and World War II and the sins of the Old Man - cuts to the heart of the murder - especially if the murder stemed from Washington and not Dallas. If the Umbrella Man brought up the word "appeasement" and "Munich" in regards to the JFK assassination, who brought those words up in the White House? LeMay.

As for the Mysterious Deaths, why not just eleminate all but those who were murdered - Rosselli, Giancana, Meyers, et al., and have those cold case homicides solved, all of which should provide new pieces to the JFK puzzle?

I could hardly get past your survey of the Usual Suspects, but not surprised that you buy into the idea that the KGB being behind the idea that the CIA killed Kennedy, and was sadden to see that you
totally discredit yourself with the inclination that Conspiracy Theorists don't practice safe sex or get vaccines.

You went too far over the edge there pal, and maybe should have taken it even further, like Paul Krasner did in The Realist - and create a scene that is even more disgusting than the murder itself.

And rather than being taken as serious journalism, which I didn't think you were aspiring towards  anyway, your article is deposited in the same file as the Dallas Diva Streaker and hey, did you see the
European commercial where the gun of a Dallas Cop goes off while he isdoing tricks with it - and accidently kills JFK?

Oh, well, if there's anyone out there who would like to do a careful and sober analysis of the evidence, let me know, because I'd like to do that.

The Perception Part

THE PERCEPTION PART

Our perception of events, not only as they occurred within the Texas Book Depository (TSBD) on November 22, 1963, but also as to what occurred in Oak Cliff, Irving, Parkland, Love Field or anywhere else – is based on what we know from other sources – primarily, especially eyewitnesses who were there at the time, as eyewitness testimony caries more weight than anything else when judging key elements of an event, especially a crime. Though such eyewitnesses have been proven wrong, sometimes mistakenly, other times intentionally lying to protect themselves or others for whatever reason, we still have the option of believing them or not.

PARALLAX VIEW

The movie “The Parallax View,” about a reporter framed for an assassination, starring Warren Beatty, was written as a novel by Alan Sagner, a former Office of Strategic Services (OSS) agent who based part of the story on his experiences with the OSS. In an interview on Black Op Radio, shortly before he died, Sagner said the OSS gave tests similar to the psychological  “test” part of the "Parallax View," in which subjects are strapped to a chair and forced to watch audio-visual presentations. Lt. Commander Narrut, based in San Diego, revealed to the London Sunday Times that the US Navy selects suitable students for training as assassins based on the results of the Minnesota Multi-phasic Personality Inventory (MMPI), looking especially for those who have passive-aggressive tendencies, and as part of their training they are forced to watch violent videos to control their physical response, just like the fictional “Parallax View.”

The "Parallax View" novel ends not at the Dallas Trade Mart rafters, but off the marshes of Cape May NJ bay where there was a top secret US Navy military research and special communications installation. (Now dead, Author A.S. was interviewed by Len O. for Black Op Radio).

When Oswald was given the MMPI test by Dr. Herzog in New York City, during his teenage truancy period, he was classified as having a “passive-aggressive” personality, just what the Navy was looking for in potential assassins.

The word “parallax” refers to the changes in perspective – or “the apparent change in the position of an object resulting from the change in the position from which it is viewed.”

It is believed that JFK, Jr., as pilot of the plane, was confused by the parallax of the horizon in which he was flying that caused him to crash.

In the early 1960s the Collins Radio Company, a major defense contractor, commissioned a study of “parallax” in pilots when flying.

REMOTE VIEWING

Back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when such research funding was readily available to study such things, the CIA and the US military ran what they called an advanced research project on Remote Viewing (at Fort Halibird, Md.) where their specially trained subjects were placed into a semi-trance and sent on mental missions to certain times and places and describe what they saw – like a fly on the wall in a semi-controlled dream state – and one of the places they sent their subjects on one such observation missions was to the Texas School Book Depository on November 22, 1963, ostensibly to see if they could learn any thing more about what happened there that day.

We’re stuck with the statements, reports and testimony of those who were there at that that time, and for us they are our doors, windows and portholes – the fly on the wall through whose eyes we can at lest try to look back and determine what really happened at that place and time.

INSIDE THE TSBD

Narrowing down the focus of attention to just what happened within the TSBD that day two things are needed – an accurate and detailed 3D Three Dimensional diagram of the 8 floors of the building (including basement) and an accurate and detailed chronology of evens that occurred within the building that day. Like a 3-D chess game being played out on multiple levels, it is grid-ed out more like a Japanese Go board, so it can be even more detailed.

If you approach the TSBD from the back of the building – as Oswald did that morning, you would be facing south and viewing two rear warehouse doors and the loading dock, two of the four entrances and exits. On the inside each garage door flanks a pair of unenclosed service elevators that went up seven floors. To the right side – northwest corner are two sets of rickety wooden steps, one going down to the basement, where there were showers and an employee locker room, while the other set went up to the second floor.

Just beyond the steps was another entrance/exit that led out to the west side of the building where the executive parking lot was located, just beyond the Grassy Knoll and Tripple Underpass that trains rolled over.

If you walked into any one of these back rear doors you would walk past the conveyer belt and the weighting and wrapping table where the paper allegedly came from that was used to carry the rifle into the building.

In the far left north-east corner of the building there’s the “Domino Room,” the employee lounge where Oswald claimed to be at the time of the shooting and where Oswald's jacket was found on the window sill over a week after the assassination.

From the Dominio Room, you head south down a wood paneled hall past two offices – those of Mr. Shelley, the warehouse foreman, and Mr. Truly, the building and company manager. Just south of their offices, in the southeast corner, there’s the main entrance – a pair of glass doors, and a small alcove that includes a passenger elevator (that only serviced the first four floors used for offices), and winding stairs with a railing that went to the second floor offices. Below the steps there's a door to a storage where Oswald was seen shortly after the assassination.

There’s a cigarette machine between the storage area and the front doors, with a pair of iron heating pipes on each side of the glass doors that open out to the steps leading down to the Elm Street side street sidewalk.

That’s the basic layout of the first floor – with one major distinction being the clean and classy front offices contrasting sharply with the dank, dark, dusty and unkept warehouse portions in the back and upper floors of the building.

G. Kinston Clark - The Critical Historian

G. Kinston Clark, in The Critical Historian, writes:

“The distortion produced by bias are potentially present in any attempt to write history. Sometimes the danger is obvious and menacing, sometimes it is covert, coming from unexpected angles and in not easily detected forms. ….Any interpretation which makes use of facts which can be shown to be false, or accepts as certainty true facts which are dubious, or does not take into account facts which are known, are at best, potentially misleading, and possibly grossly, and dangerously deceptive. ….It is the first task of the historian to review any narrative to find what links are missing altogether…where what is defective cannot be supplied by further research, it is an historian’s duty to draw attention to the fact so that men can know where they stand.…Any historical conception which has not been adjusted to the most recent results will cease to be satisfactory.”

50 Questions that can be answered

A reporter who covered the assassination for the New York Herald Tribune recently self-published a book in which he says that he had 25 questions that to him the Warren Commission Report answered. Well that got me thinking....

50 Questions – Regarding the Assassination of President Kennedy –

Fifty years after the assassination, these reasonable questions can and should be answered.

1)      How many shots were fired, which one missed and which one was the head shot?
2)      From what direction(s) did the shots come from?
3)      Where did the bullets come from? Bugliosi says that Oswald bought them, but there's no evidence of that. Where did they come from? You can’t buy one bullet, you buy bullets like cigarettes in packs and cartons and boxes, each of which has a tracking number that can tell you where and when it was sold and shipped. There were three shell casings found on the floor of the Sixth Floor Sniper’s Nest window and one unused bullet in the chamber.
4)      Where did the rifle come from? How did it get in the building?
5)      Where did the leather strap come from? A USAF military sidearm holster strap that had to come from somewhere, from someone who knew the owner of the rifle.
6)      Why is there a scope attached that wasn’t used?
7)      What fingerprints were found on the a) rifle, b) shells, c) boxes, d) soda bottles, e) windows, f) doors, g) other locations within the TSBD/ that could be connected to Oswald and others?.
8)      How did the rifle get into the building without Frazer recognizing it?
9)      What became of the “confession” that the DPD tried to get B. W. Frazer to sign and what did it say?
10)  Who else besides Oswald was involved in the Walker shooting, and why didn’t Oswald prepare for JFK like he did for Walker – taking photos of the scene, keeping notebook, etc.?
11)  Did George diMohrenschildt mention Oswald to the CIA officers he met in NYC two weeks after he identifed Oswald as the Walker shooter?
12)  How did a German magazine learn of Oswald’s connection to the Walker shooting before the DPD?
13)  Who were the McCurley Brothers – who allegedly assisted Oswald in distributing FPCC leaflets in New Orleans, and did they know a man named Hidel?
14)  How did the rifle get from Dallas to New Orleans in April of 1963 and back again in September 1963?
15)  Why weren’t Ruth and Michael Paine called to testify under oath by the HSCA or ARRB or today?
16)  Who were the twin brothers, sons of Dallas FBI agent, who were seen breaking into the apartment of Mob moll and JFK mistress Judyth Campbell Exner, one of whom would later kill John Connally’s daughter?
17)  If Oswald killed JFK to obtain notoriety, as alleged, then why did he deny committing the deed?
18)  If Oswald was seen on the first floor of the TSBD at 12:15 pm, then who was the person seen with a rifle on the Sixth Floor at that time?
19)  If Oswald was seen by Baker on the other side of the Second Floor lunchroom door at 12:31 pm, if he went through that door as he would have to do if he was the assassin, how come that Roy Truly, ahead of Baker, didn’t see him, as he should have if Oswald was 20 feet in front of him?
20)  If Baker saw Oswald through the window of the closed Second Floor Lunchroom door, isn’t it more logical that he entered the three door vestibule through the south door, as he said he did, and therefore was not the Sixth Floor Sniper?
21)  If Oswald was on the second floor when Baker and Truly encountered him at 12:31 pm, who was the man in the Sixth Floor Sniper window moving boxes around a few minutes after the last shot?
22)  If Oswald was not the Sixth Floor Sniper, then who was the man in the white shirt and bald spot on the top of his head who shot at JFK from that window and how did he get out of the building?
23)  How come Oswald, if he had just shot the president, deposited the rifle behind boxes and ran down four flights of steps to get to the Second Floor Lunchroom before Baker – a minute and half – 90 seconds after the last shot – how come he wasn’t out of breath from running and hyper from having just blown JFK’s brains out, but was instead, cool, calm and collected, just as he was 30 seconds later when he encountered Mrs. Reid.
24)  Why do those who believe that Oswald killed the President all by himself also claim he was a no good, crazy, loser rather than the very good and successful assassin he had to be?
25)  What became of the Coke bottle? What became of the Dr. Pepper bottle found on the Sixth Floor? And what became of the broken soda bottle at the base of the park bench on the Grassy Knoll and filed by reporters?
26)  What became of black couple – man and women who were sitting on that park bench eating lunch and drinking the soda when they witnessed the assassination, and why haven’t they come forward?
27)  What became of Ms. McKinnon, who claims to have witnessed the assassination from the Grassy Knoll and has since disappeared?
28)  Why hasn’t the HSCA acoustics study been followed up on and the acoustical evidence evaluated properly?
29)  What is the provenance of CE#399?
30)  What’s the real story behind the DNA testing of CE#345?
31)  Why wasn’t the TSBD building secured immediately by the three DPD officers out front?
32)  Why did so many witnesses believe the shots came from the Grassy Knoll and run there afterwards if no shots came from there?
33)  How come – if Brennan and Eunis and other witnesses told DPD and Sheriff’s officers that they saw a sniper with rifle – or just the rifle in the SE corner window of the TSBD sixth floor at 12:31, yet Sheriff’s deputy Luke Mooney didn’t “discover” the Sniper’s Nest until after 1 pm?
34)  Who was the man in the brown sports coat who was seen on the Sixth Floor with the man in the white shirt and rifle who ran out the back door of the TSBD and got into a Rambler station wagon?
35)  Who was the man in the white shirt who ran down the Grassy Knoll and got into a Rambler station wagon?
36)  How come there is no film or photo of Oswald leaving the front door of the TSBP, as there should be, or is there?
37)  Why did Oswald walk seven blocks east of the TSBD and then get on a bus going back to the scene? And why did he get on a bus that would take him away from his rooming house when the bus behind it went directly to it?
38)  Why did Oswald offer his cab to an old lady if he was in such a hurry, and why did he take it five blocks past his rooming house?
39)  Who gave the DPD the description of the assassin that was broadcast over the police radio at 12:45pm
40)  Who was in the DPD cop car outside Oswald’s rooming house while he was there?
41)  Who was Tippit calling from the Top Ten Records shop phone ten minutes before he was killed?
42)  Who was the “Oswald” patron at the Top Ten shop and the beer drinking Oswald with the drivers license ID?
43)  Why did Tippit stop his assailant?
44)  Whose wallet was found at the scene and examined by officers?
45)  Who found the jacket under the car and where did the cleaning tag come from?
46)  Who were the IBM employees at the shoe store when Tippit’s assailant came by?
47)  Who was the “Oswald” guy who entered the theater at around 1 pm who bought a ticket and popcorn?
48)  Who was taken into a DPD police car in the alley in the rear of the Texas Theater?
49)  Who was driving Carl Mather’s car around Oak Cliff at the time of Tippit murder?
50)  What became of the unedited and complete tape of Air Force One radio transmissions of 11/22/63?
51)  Why was Oswald’s military record destroyed?
52)  What became of the ONI records related to the assassination, specifically those of Adml. Ruffus Taylor?
53)  How many documents are still being withheld for reasons of national security?
54)   If Oswald alone killed JFK because of his own perverted psychological motives, what do the CIA-Mafia plots to kill Castro have anything to do with it?
55)  Did Oswald take the pistol with him to Mexico City, as some of the Soviet officers claim?
56)  What became of the Cuban training camp film archived at GWU that HSCA staffers saw?
57)  How is it that JFK left Parkland Hospital in a bronze casket yet arrived at Bethesda in a metal one?
58)  Why can’t the Bethesda autopsy photographers recognize the photos?
59)  Who was the four star general at the autopsy who ordered the back wound not to be probed?
60)  Why were there two official autopsy exams of JFK’s brain?
61)  Why were there three different autopsy reports?
62)  What became of JFK’s brain after it was examined by autopsy doctors after JFK was buried?
63)  Why was there a container labeled JFK brain matter that was improperly disposed when flushed down a food processor drain?
64)  How come those who photographed JFK’s autopsy don’t recognize the photos that exist today?
65)  Why isn’t JFK’s body exhumed and given a proper forensic autopsy with the latest scientific equipment?
66)  Why hasn’t Congress held an oversight hearing on the JFK Act in over 15 years?
67) And oh, yea, why did Oswald, during his interrogations, admit to owning the pistol but not a rifle?
68) If all of the professional police officers and federal agents who interrogated Oswald said that he was in total control and appears to have been rehearsed and trained, who would have rehearsed and trained him?

"Prayer Man" at the TSBD

Thanks to Randy Sorensen for putting this composite together.

The photo on the upper left is a frame from a film taken by a reporter who was in the press car, a convertible in the motorcade. It shows the front door to the Texas School Book Depository moments after the last shot, and the film includes scenes of Dallas motorcyle policemen Marion Baker running to the front door where he will pass the man standing on the top step to the left of the door.

Under interrogation Oswald claimed that he was in the first floor lunchroomat the time of the shooting, then went out front to see what all the commotion was about.

While this person, dubbed "Prayer Man" because of the way his hands are folded in front of him, could be Oswald, it also could be Buel Wesley Frazer, the young man who gave Oswald a ride to work that morning.

For more on Frazer, see him interviewed at http://www.c-spanvideo.org/program/LeeHarv  in which he sticks to his story that the package Oswald carried into work that day was too small to be the rifle. He also claims that Capt. Fritz tried to get him to sign a "confession" that was drawn up by the police, which he refused to do.

If the man in the film is Oswald, or if Oswald was telling the truth as to his whereabouts at the time of the assassination - and he was last seen on the first floor by three other employees, then it seems like he went up the front stairs to the second floor and encountered Baker and Roy Truly in the lunchroom where he went to buy a coke.

Oswald then left the second floor lunchroom the same way he entered it, and then encountered Mrs. Reid in the office, where she saw Oswald walking with his coke.

Wesley Frazier

Frazier at DPD on 11/22/63 in same clothes he wore that day

Despite Gary Mack's certainty that William Shelley is Prayer Man, Shelley is pictured in photos as wearing a suit and tie and testified that he and Lovelady immediately went across the street to the traffic island where he looked back and observed Officer Baker enter the front door. So it can't be Shelley. It is also troubling that Frazer can't identify himself in the photo, especially if he is Prayer Man, as I suspect.

On Sept. 19, 2013 Gary Mack wrote: The Prayer Man question has probably been answered.  I recently sent the Couch and Darnell frames to Buell Frazier and asked what he thought.  First, he wouldn’t confirm himself being on the top step because the image isn’t clear enough.  He then re-confirmed that Lovelady and Shelley were out on the steps with him, just as he has always said, but  he couldnt confirm Shelley, either, due to the image quality.
Next I asked about Shelley’s appearance and learned he was a little taller than Lovelady (who was 5’8”), had red hair and a slender build.  When I asked if Shelley usually wore a coat and tie to work Buell said no, he “dressed daily in slacks and sport shirts.”  And he repeated that he, Lovelady and Shelley stayed on the steps for “a short time” after the last shot, but he didn’t estimate how long.

So unless Buell Frazier is still part of the cover-up plot, TSBD “Miscellaneous Department” manager William Shelley, by elimination, must be Prayer Man.  According to Shelley’s testimony, “I didn’t do anything for a minute” following the last shot, so the man was standing on the steps before, during and after the time Darnell and Couch filmed those brief scenes.

Case for a New Autopsy

A CASE FOR A NEW AUTOPSY
By William Kelly (billkelly3@gmail.com)

The victim was murdered, gunned down on the street in broad daylight in front of hundreds of witnesses.

The cause of death - a bullet to the head, was determined by an autopsy. But after that fact was clearly established, there is complete legal confusion - as the body was improperly removed from the state where the murder occurred before there was a proper forensic autopsy, as required by law. Rather than a proper forensic autopsy – which creates certified evidence that can be used in a court of law, a less thorough regular autopsy was performed, the purpose of which was to determine the cause of death - gunshot to the head.

But there were three different autopsy reports prepared, the doctors who conducted the autopsy did not talk about the wounds with the emergency room doctors who treated them, and there were two brain exams, one of a brain that was not that of the victim.

The photos, x-rays and reports of the autopsy could not be introduced as evidence in a court of law because the technicians who took the photos and x-rays could not identify them as the ones they created, so the provenance - the chain of evidence from the scene of the crime to the grave, is broken and lost, much like our history.

If the victim was an unknown bum found dead in a street gutter and his death was considered suspicious, his remains would be routinely exhumed and given a proper forensic autopsy - one that would produce photos, x-rays and reports that could be introduced as evidence in a court of law.

But justice has been thwarted in this case because the victim was the President of the United States named John F. Kennedy, and political forces have intervened to prevent a proper legal resolution of the case and keep the truth from being known.

The details of the original, botched autopsy are well known. When the doctors in the emergency room at Parkland Hospital in Dallas viewed the wounds within minutes after they were inflicted, they only examined the throat and head wounds. The throat wound they assumed, because of its small size, to be one of entrance, and it was enlarged to insert breathing tubes.

The head wound, as all the Parkland doctors agreed, was a large, grapefruit sized whole in the back of the head, indicating an exit wound, and a flap of bone and flesh on the side of the head above the ear exposed the brain. The large, gaping hole in the back of the President’s head was also confirmed by Secret Service agent Clint Hill, who twice viewed it and confirmed its existence.

Because the President was lying on his back on the hospital gurney, and the nature of the head wounds precluded his survival, the Parkland doctors didn’t turn him over and didn't know there was also an entrance wound in the back, about six inches below the neck.

They did however, find a nearly pristine bullet on a gurney that may have been used by to wheel the President or Texas Governor John Connally into the emergency room.

The autopsy doctors, when they discovered the entrance wound in the back, found that the bullet only penetrated a few inches, less than a finger, and the bullet probably fell out and was the one discovered on the gurney at Parkland. A four star military general ordered the doctors not to track the full extent of the back wound.

The next day the autopsy doctors were surprised to learn that the Parkland emergency doctors had enlarged an already existing throat wound – which they believed to be an entrance wound, so it was realized that, even though their conclusion as to the cause of death - gunshot to the head, was correct, the rest of their report was invalid as more information became available from witnesses at Parkland.

Eventually the official report on the assassination concluded that the back wound was not a superficial, two inch deep wound, but did in fact transit the victim and exited his throat, and then inflicted all of the wounds on Governor Connally in the jump seat in front of the President, creating the “Single Bullet Theory,” which is required if all of the wounds were by one gunman shooting from behind.

The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) investigated the murder in the late 1970s and in the 1990s the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) questioned the doctors, photographers and x-ray technicians. They testified that could not recognize their work, sometimes explaining that the photos in evidence could not have been the ones they took because they were of a different type of film and not from the angles of the photos they took.

In retrospect, everyone with any knowledge of the Bethesda Naval Hospital autopsy agrees that it was a medical and legal abortion, and all of the autopsy reports, exams, x-rays and photos have lost their chain of possession and the provenance necessary for them to be introduced into evidence in a court of law.

Because the cause of death was a “gunshot to the head,” and therefore a murder, this case certainly meets the “suspicious death” threshold necessary for the law to require a new, proper forensic autopsy, one that would answer all outstanding questions and recreate the lost provenance of the chain of evidence in the case.

But since the victim is not an ordinary American citizen, but the President of the United States, the laws, rules and standards are considered different - and rather than give the President the best and most thorough autopsy he deserves, observance of the law is relegated to the feelings of the Kennedy family.

In a press release for the NOVA TV science program Cold Case JFK it is noted that, “Renowned JFK assassination expert and professor John McAdamas weighs in on the findings of the Warren Commission , the deficiencies of the medical and autopsy evidence, and the lack of understanding on the part of the Kennedy camp on the need for a forensic autopsy at the time..”

Indeed, a forensic autopsy is what is needed, and it is one that can and should be done today, in honor of the president on the fiftieth anniversary of his murder.

Society gives the family primary control over the body of the deceased, yet in many cases a coroner, district attorney or grand jury has the power to order the exhumation of a body for a forensic autopsy, especially in the case of a suspicious death or homicide.

In an academic presentation on the subject of a new autopsy at a 2003 Conference, the topic should have been presented in an objective, unbiased fashion, but instead, an emotional appeal was made to respect the Kennedy family, to honor the revered dead and let them rest in peace.

Well, the revered dead are turning over in their graves and will never rest in peace, and neither will we, until the total truth is determined, including the answers to the many questions concerning the medical evidence and botched autopsy of the President.

The first objection to a proper forensic autopsy is the feelings of the Kennedy family, and like the decision of the Connally family at the death of John Connally, not to permit an autopsy, it has always been assumed that the Kennedy family would also oppose a new, proper forensic autopsy.

John Connally and his wife were sitting just in front of President Kennedy and he was wounded in the same barrage of bullets. They never believed the “single bullet theory,” and it has been suggested that there is more lead in Connally's wrist than is missing from the so-called “magic bullet.”

When Connally died the Justice Department requested the bullet fragments be removed, but the request was denied by the Connally family.

When the Department of Justice agreed to request of John T. Orr, Jr. one of the most respected federal attorneys, to subject bullet fragments CE567 to further tests, they also noted in a memo for the record that: “...It is our view that the Department (of Justice) has retained investigative jurisdiction over the assassination, though such investigation is restricted to activities which are not based upon the expectation of an eventual federal prosecution. Thus, the examination of evidence in federal possession is seemingly appropriate, [while] obtaining evidence by grand jury subpoena would likely be inappropriate. This position was adopted by the Division and endorsed b the Office of the Deputy Attorney General when we declined to seek a court order for exhumation of former Governor Connally’s body following allegations that bullet fragments remaining in his body from the incident would reveal, by weight or composition, the existence of additional bullets.”  [For more on CE567 see: http://jfkcountercoup2.blogspot.com/2012/03/re-wc-ce-567-bullet-fragment-found.html]

Though no one has actually asked them, like the Connallys, it has always been assumed that the Kennedys will deny such a request as well.

That may have been the case with the previous generation who witnessed the public exhumation and butchering of the body of Lee Harvey Oswald, which was done to positively establish his identity.

But today a proper forensic autopsy can be conducted with dignity, it can answer many of the outstanding questions, legally reestablish the provenance of the medical evidence in the case and reconnect the truth to history.

In fact, with today's modern scientific techniques and equipment, the body can be photographed, x-rayed and given MRI and similar non-intrusive surveys so that the body does not have to be touched or probed. These photographs, x-rays and scans will not be gruesome, but are like works of art, and will be studied by forensic science students for generations into the future.

Now that the Kennedy family is led by a new generation who are interested in public service, they should allow for the legal process, established by the Constitution, to function as it should, and permit a proper forensic autopsy, not only in the interest of the Kennedy family, but in the best interests of the nation.

SOME OF THE RESPONSE TO THIS ARTICLE:

Bill:
Your discussion re the original JFK autopsy and the legal /forensic scientific basis for proposing an exhumation examination are quite valid and clearly stated.

Based upon my 51 years as a practicing forensic pathologist who has performed approximately 18,000 autopsies and reviewed, supervised, or has been consulted on approximately 36.000 other post-mortem examinations, I can state that you are correct in your assertion that such an exhumation and repeat autopsy would be undertaken if the scenario you have set forth involved some “run-of-the-mill” citizen. [In fact, I have personally performed about 30-36 such examinations in my years of practice].

Although I very much doubt that either the Kennedy family [i.e., Caroline] or the US government will ever agree to have this done, there is no reason why the well-reasoned argument you have set forth should not be proposed in appropriate fashion, i.e., with utmost respect and buttressed with solid, unarguable forensic scientific/legal reasoning.

MRI and CT Scan in a virtual autopsy fashion. Along with careful, detailed, precisely measured visual external examination could provide us with all the necessary information without having to perform any further dissection.

As part of such a dignified “campaign”, why not also pursue the mystery of the missing brain?  Since I publicly revealed this in August 1972, nobody has officially and formally accounted for the “disappearance” of this vital piece of evidence.

Keep me posted on how you intend to pursue this matter.

               Best wishes.
                                             Cyril

Also thanks to Gary Mack for this note and calling our attention to the cemetery's policy that permits reinterment by order of a court with proper jurisdiction or with permission of the family, and without any cost to the government. While an order from a court is more likely, if the family permits, the costs would be offset by most of those involved working pro bono.

Gary Mack notes:

While she's alive it cannot happen without Caroline's approval and Bill's payment of all costs involved:  http://educationforum.ipbhost.com/index.php?showtopic=13664  And here are the pages with the relevant legal information: http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/CFR-1998-title38-vol1/pdf/CFR-1998-title38-vol1-sec1-621.pdf

It seems to me we've had 50 years of personal interpretations of what documents and information mean to CTs, but there's no significant proof of anything other than Oswald being the killer and having a really strange history that may not have been fully revealed.

By the way, the only reason the Connally family declined an autopsy was because they were asked AT the grave site services.  Had the request gotten to them sooner, and the FBI did make a very good effort as a result of a plea from or through Jim Lesar, they would have considered it.  And yes, I've asked that question of a family member and another very closely connected to Governor Connally.

JFK and Atlantic City

JFK Bust at Kennedy Plaza on the Atlantic City Boardwalk

JFK and Atlantic City
by William Kelly

Skinny D'Amato and JFK during the 1960 Campaign

As the nation and the world reflect on the legacy of President John F. Kennedy in the course of the media frenzy building up for the 50th anniversary of his murder, Atlantic City's role in the Kennedy Story should be recognized and recorded for the record.

In looking back over time since the assassination of President Kennedy, it's quite clear
that Atlantic City played a major role in the evolving course of events and some of its residents were major characters in the Kennedy drama, which was sometimes comic and other times tragic.

John Martino, Skinny D'Amato, Charles Ford and Carroll Rosenbloom were all Atlantic City natives who became entwined in the JFK assassination story.

Although you wouldn't know it, the boardwalk in front of Boardwalk Hall is officially known as Kennedy Plaza, and if you look for it, back against the rail, there's a life-sized statute, a shoulders and head bust of President Kennedy by renown sculpture Evangelos Frudakis.

Unveiled by New Jersey Governor Richard Hughes at the time of the 1964 Democratic National Convention, held at Boardwalk Hall, then known as Convention Hall, the beautifully sculptured bust is much more attractive than the bland monument to JFK erected by the city of Dallas.

Not to be left alone, JFK's bust has been more recently joined by other lesser known local political figures, but JFK stand there today as a reminder of what might have been had he not been murdered in Dallas fifty years ago this November.

If JFK was not killed he most certainly would have been re-nominated as the Democratic Party's candidate for President, and Atlantic City would have been the place to celebrate and party, with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the Rat Pack at the Five, Sammy Davis, Jr. at the Club Harlem and the Beatles at Steel Pier, it would have been a blast, but the fates intervened.

Even though he was a Republican, "Hap" Farley, the political boss of Atlantic City who succeeded Nucky Johnson, promoted the idea of Atlantic City hosting the Democratic Convention. Farley wanted to impress the Democrats by giving them a good time and then try to get both the Democratic and Republican Conventions in 1968,

The deal for the '64 convention coming to Atlantic City was sealed when Frank Sinatra and Sam Giancana, through Skinny D'Amato, owner of Atlantic City's 500 Club, helped swing the West Virginia Democratic primary in Kennedy's favor, defeating Hubert Humphrey, thus ensuring him the party's nomination on the first ballot at the 1960 Democratic Convention in Los Angeles.

Sinatra contributed his song "High Hopes," which became Kennedy's official campaign song, while Skinny helped Kennedy by greasing the West Virginia Sheriff's association, who held their annual meeting in Atlantic City. Then Sam Giancana, the Chicago mob boss, at the request of Sinatra and Old Man Joe Kennedy, is said to have gotten the dead to vote for Kennedy in the general election, which JFK won by only a few hundred thousand votes, the closest election ever.

Kennedy asked Sinatra to make the entertainment arrangements for his Inaugural Ball in Washington, and Sinatra began making plans for the re-nomination party at the 1964 Democratic National Convention, which was to be held in Atlantic City.

Frank and Jack at the Inaugural Ball

The Inaugural Ball was a smashing affair, but a lot happened in the aftermath, as JFK appointed his brother Bobby Attorney General, and RFK had his Justice Department go after organized crime, especially targeting Sam Giancana and his mob associates - Johnny Rosselli, Carlos Marcello of New Orleans and Santo Traficante of Tampa and Havana, Cuba.

And a lot of what happened had to do with Cuba as Fidel Castro's revolution finally succeed on New Year's eve 1959, and Castro began to eliminate the Havana gangster elements who ran the casinos under the corrupt Batista regime.

With the proceeds of profits made smuggling and bootlegging liquor during prohibition, the national syndicate of organized crime - led by the Commission, which was formed in Atlantic City in April 1929, had invested heavily in casino gambling in Las Vegas, Florida and Havana.

In 1958, after three decades of running Havana like Nucky Johnson ran Atlantic City, Lansky decided to bail out and cash in his chips, possibly leery of Fidel Castro's revolution. Lansky, the Syndicate's treasurer, sold his Hotel Nacional casino in Havana to Mike McLaney, one of JFK's golfing partners, and Carroll Rosenbloom, the owner of the Baltimore Colts NFL football team, who lived at the Jersey Shore in Margate.

John Martino, a Ducktown, Atlantic City bookie, became a casino security specialist who Santo Traficante sent to Havana to help run his casino, but Castro had Martino arrested as a spy, though most of the other gangsters got out with their shirts and whatever cash they could carry.

Sam Giancana had been involved with the CIA in the plots to kill Castro since 1959, when Eisenhower was president, and the gangsters thought their assistance in getting JFK elected and helping the CIA kill Castro would be enough to get them off the hook for any minor legal transgressions. But Attorney General RFK kept pursing them even though his brother, the president, was sharing a bed with mob moll Judith Campbell Exner, Sinatra and Giancana. Frank, Sam, Judy and Jack were all in bed together, both literally and figuratively.

Charles Ford, an Atlantic City native, was the CIA's middle man between the Kennedy brothers and the mobsters. Ford attended local high school and Princeton before becoming a CIA training officer, pulled from instructional chores to serve as RFK's CIA liaison with the mobsters during the CIA plots to get rid of Castro.

When John Martino finally got out of Cuban prison, exchanged with the Bay of Pigs veterans, he wrote a book, "I Was Castro's Prisoner," and for awhile became room mates with John Rosselli, who oversaw the mob's business in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and whose CIA case officer William Harvey, was known as "America's James Bond."

At the CIA's University of Miami's JMWAVE station Rosselli was known as "Colonel Rosselli" and ran one of the anti-Castro Cuban commando raider teams that was trying to kill Castro. One of the plots they hatched was to kill Castro with a high powered rifle from a  tall building while he rode in an open jeep, but then President Kennedy was killed in Dallas while riding in an open limousine through Dealey Plaza.

On the morning of November 22, 1963, John Martino told his wife that Kennedy would never leave Dallas alive, that he would be killed by a sniper and a patsy would be arrested to take the blame.

The following August, Kennedy's successor President Lyndon B. Johnson was paranoid. He knew that shortly after the Democratic convention, his hand picked commission would conclude that President Kennedy was killed by a lone assassin, and there was no conspiracy, but he was scared. LBJ was afraid that the still simmering sympathy for the slain president would lead to Robert F. Kennedy being spontaneously drafted as the Democrat Party's candidate, a distinct possibility at an open convention.

To make sure that didn't happen LBJ postponed the planned tribute to JFK until the end of the convention, after he was safely nominated, selecting Humbert Humphrey as his running mate. LBJ also had Bobby Kennedy's phone tapped and in order to avoid the bugs he suspected RFK or the FBI had placed in his own Atlantic City hotel room, he instead stayed at the Margate beach house of Carroll Rosenbloom.

While Rosenbloom may have lost his shirt in Havana when Castro confiscated his casino without compensation, he was a gambler and the side bets he had placed on LBJ had come up big.

Once LBJ had the nomination in hand, they showed a film depicting the Kennedy presidency and then RFK took the podium. After an extended twenty-two minute standing ovation RFK delivered a now famous speech in which he quoted a line from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet that the widow Jackie had written on a piece of paper and slipped to him. "When he shall die, take him and cut him out in little starts, and he will make the face of heaven so fine and all the world will be in love with night, and pay no worship to the garish sun."

The week of the convention Sinatra kept his end of the deal and appeared at Skinny D'Amato's 500 Club, but it just wasn't the way they planned it.

For Atlantic City the 1964 Democratic Convention was a public relations disaster, as the national press corps and international radio and TV journalists reported on the true state of Atlantic City - America's Playground was the pits. Just as the Kennedy-Sinatra relationship had "high hopes,' but went sour after the election, Atlantic City was not the same place it was in it's hey days, when all of the boardwalk hotels were first class establishments and all the guests were treated royally. By the early 1960s the old hotels were falling apart, with pealing paint, broken plumbing, electric lights that didn't work and employees who treated the guests shabbily, like Shoebes.

Although it would take another decade, the sad state of affairs on the boardwalk eventually led to the casino gambling legislation that would level most of the old hotels and in their place build modern hotel casinos that would reinvigorate Atlantic City into another era.

Today, the bust of JFK at Kennedy Plaza is about the only historical remnant left to remind us of that time and place, what might have been had JFK lived and Camelot came to Atlantic City.
