Arthur M. Young - Updated

Arthur Middleton Young

Arthur Young with his model helicopter - the First Drone

As I have previously mentioned, Arthur Young was one of the most interesting persons I have ever met, and I have met my share as a working journalist for over three decades.

I first read his name in Gerald Ford's book "Portrait of the Assassin" that Ford was criticized for using records that were sealed and unavailable to anyone else. Ford said that Ruth H. Paine, Michael Paine's wife, wrote a letter to the pregnant Marina in New Orleans offering to take her into her Irving, Texas home until she had the baby. If she agreed, Paine wrote, Marina should write to her c/o in care of Arthur Young, Paoli, Pennsylvania.

Apparently Ruth Paine took an annual late summer road trip to the North East visiting relatives - including her father in Ohio, sister in Washington D.C., and her husband Micahel's mom at the Forbes Island off Massachusettes and her farm house outside Philadelphia, near Paoli, Pa.. Michael's mother had been married twice before - including to Lyman Paine, Michael's father, one of the founders of the Communist Trotyskite Party in the USA. Oswald subscribed to the Trotyskite Militant newspaper, which he can can be seen holding along with the rifle and pistol in the backyard photos.

Ruth Forbes Paine had divorced Paine and married Arthur Young - an equally eccentric inventor of the Bell Helicopter, who arranged for Michael Paine to work at Bell when they opened the Texas production plant.

When I obtained his phone number I called Arthur Young at his rural Philadelhia home and requested a formal interview, which he granted, if I would read his books first. I then ordered and read his personal history of the development of the Bell Helicopter, and a second book on his philosophy of Process.

I then drove to his historic colonal farm house on the Brandywine Creek, not far from the Revolutionary War battlefield in which George Washington was almost shot by a Scottish sniper but spared, as the sniper didn't want to shoot him in the back.

Sometime in early ninties, I will get the exact date from the tape, I visited Paine at his historic old farmhouse hard on the Brandywine Creek. And while his wife, Michael Paine's mother - Ruth Forbes Paine Young sat with a visiting young women in the garden, Arthur Young and myself sat in his living room - study with all the walls lined with books. He was a well read man.

Young permitted me to tape record our conversation so I set the cassette recorder on the table between us while he sat back in a chair and asked me my date and place of birth, saying he was going to do my astrology chart while we talked.

The son of two fine artists, Young knew that he was a genius and while attending Princeton, argued over Einstein's theory of relativity - saying that time was not a constant but a variable in the equation, something he learned from the sudden death of a brother.

After graduation in the twenties, Young said he went to the Patent office in Washington D.C. looking for something worthwhile to invent - and after reviewing the work being done on color film, video, steriophonic sound and other yet to be invented ideas - settled on trying to resolve the problems with vertical flight - the helicopter, which he thought was the easiest of the lot.

Young was proud of the fact that no one died in the experimentation because he used scale models - and indirectly invented the drone - and it took almost two decades to perfect - eventually obtaining a patent for a stabalizing bar that ran from the front to rear propeller shafts allowing for controlled flight.

Once he was confident he had it right, in 1940, Young put his toy helicopter in a box and took it to Bell Aircraft in upstate New York where they were manufacturing fighter planes they sold to the Soviet Russians.

Larry Bell's secretary told Young he had only fifteen minutes of Mr. Bell's time, so Young went out to the huge assembly line area of the factory, set up his model plane and began flying it around the room, halting production. When Bell came out of his office to see what was going on, Young flew the helicopter model around some more and then landed it at Bell's feet.

How long will it take to build a full scale version?, Bell wanted to know. And Young didn't know, but they signed a contract and Bell gave him a building and a team of engineers to build the full scale version of the helicopter - which took over four years - too late for World War II. But it was the first helicopter commercially approved by the federal government - the Bell 41A - which is better known as the glass dome and girder MASH helicopter - some of which are still in use today. The first one is still on display at the New York Museum of Modern Art, something Young said his artist parents would be proud of.

It was while living with Young and his mother and attending a local college when Michael Paine met Ruth Hyde at a folk music and dance social. Michael Paine and Ruth Hyde were married in the quaint, local Quaker town of Media, Pennsylvania.

When I asked Young why Bell moved the helicopter factory to Texas he said it was for "security reasons," and it was in Texas where Young arranged for his wife's son - Michael Paine - to work at the Bell Helicopter plant as a designer, so that stimulated their relocation to Texas.

After the helicopter, Young and his equally eccentric wife Ruth Forbes Paine embarked on what he called the "Gee Wiz" years - exploring a number of radical ideas that peaked his interest including ESP, Remote Viewing, remote medical diagnosis, UFOs and the secrets of the Egyptian pyramids.

In 1972 he formed a research institute the Center for the Study of Consciousness, that still exists in California. Young said that he had earlier formed a earlier non-profit research institute but he didn't like the financial backers who he implied, tried to control things.

Meanwhile, Michael Paine's mother Ruth Forbes Paine Young developed an interest in the United Nations and supported Cord Meyer, Jr.'s World Federalists - which also included a neighbor - college student Priscilla Johnson (McMillan) and CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite. Cord Meyer, Jr.'s father, Cord Meyer, Sr. was an early aircraft pioneer and with D. H. Byrd, co-founder of the Civil Air Patrol in 1941, an organization that Oswald would be affiliated with in New Orleans before he enlisted in the Marines.

While I was aware of Mrs. R. F. P. Young's work for the World Federalists - hosting a Main Line black tie fundraising ball, she was too old and infirm to answer any questions when I met her.

Nor was I aware at the time of our meeting of her close association with Mary Bancroft, that Bancroft mentions in her book "Autobiography of a Spy," that also details her amorous affair with Allen Dulles and their OSS escapades during World War II - including assisting Gestapo officer Hans Bernd Gisivious in the July 20, 1944 Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler.

I also later learned that at the very moment of the assassination, Michael Paine was sitting in the Bell Helicopter cafeteria having lunch with a co-worker who later said that at the very moment of the assassination Michael was talking to him about the "character of assassins," certainly ESP - extra sensory perception at work - and something Arthur Young would have appreciated.

I think our conversation lasted over a few hours, and I still have it all on tape, but at one point Young stopped talking about himself and asked me if I was an alien.

Taken aback by the question, I asked if he meant if I was from Ireland?

No he said, my astrology chart indicated I could be an alien from the Plaedies - a group of planets hundreds of thousands of light years away. I think he was disappointed when I said I was from Camden, N.J., just across the river and wasn't from the Pleadies.

Incredulous, I asked him about this, and he explained that we have been visited by aliens from the Pleadies for quite a while, as they have been studying us. And while they look like us, they are not the only aliens visitors, and are at war with other beings from another planet - called the Greys, who look like the Close Encounter aliens.

They come here in giant "Beam Ships," that can go anywhere in the universe instantaniously, and they park the Beam Ship at the end the solar system - so as not to interfere with gravety, and then send out flying saucers, that we know as UFOs.

When Young realized that I was suspicious of all this, he said it was okay if I didn't believe, but it was all well documented.

Well documented? Where? And he went into the next room and reached up and pulled a book off a shelf - about regular alien visitors to a farm in Germany where they land their flying saucers and drop off and pick up those who have been living among us and studying us. Complete with pictures - including one of a beautiful blonde alien who was heading home after visiting us for awhile.

I took note of the author's name - Col. Wendell Stevens, USAF Ret.), and was surprised he was a U.S. Air Force Colonel and not some crackpot.

Before leaving, Young introduced me to his wife, Michael's mom, and we chatted politely for a few minutes but it was clear, as Young told me, she was incapable of responding to any questions. We then went out to the barn, a huge large brick barn where he built model helicopters, and he gave me an 8 by 10 glossy black and white photo of him back in the late 1930s flying one of his helicopter models around the back field.

When I got back home to Ocean City, N.J., I looked up Air Force Colonel Wendell Stevens, who wrote the book on the aliens from the Plaedies, and quickly located him in New Mexico. The next day I called him on the phone and he politelyl admitted to writing the book, but it was out of print and he was working on an update. Where did I see his book? h. Arthur Young showed it to me.

Ah, yes, how is Arthur?

When I asked him where he served in the Air Force, he said mainly at Wright-Patterson Air Force base in Dayton, Ohio. I told him I attended the University of Dayton, and was quite familiar with the base.

The retired Air Force Colonel explained that he had been assigned to Project Blue Book - the Air Force study of UFOs.

I then asked him - who was his commanding officer?

Why that, he said, would be U.S. Air Force General Charles Pierre Cabal - the brother of the mayor of Dallas.

Ruth Paine - Quaker or Svengali?

Ruth Paine – Case Study -

Quaker Samaritan or CIA Svengali?

Is she a modest Quaker Samaritan who took in strangers, or a CIA Svengali who played a key role in the plot to kill the President?

You make the call.

According to the Warren Commission, who treated her with kid gloves, she transported the rifle from Texas to New Orleans and back again, kept it in her garage and obtained the job at the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) for the accused assassin.

If it happened today and she was ISIS instead of a Quaker, she would be arrested, waterboarded and indicted under the Pinkerton statute, as one of the House Select Committee on Assassination (HSCA) attorneys wanted to do, but in the end, they didn’t even bother to question her.

As Vince Salandria put it, the assassination couldn’t have happened without Ruth Paine, and an innocent government would have recognized that.

[  (26) The JFK Assassination: A False Mystery Concealing State Crimes - YouTube /  False Mystery: The JFK Assassination: A False Mystery Concealing State Crimes, 1998  ]

Salandria: "Oswald’s family was brought to the Dallas area by Ruth Paine. Ruth Paine had been instrumental in getting Oswald a job at the Texas Book Depository. The Mannlicher-Carcano, the alleged murder rifle, had supposedly been stored in a garage of the Paines. Following the assassination, Ruth Paine was called by Oswald during his detention to have her obtain a lawyer for him, a task which she failed to complete much to the benefit of the assassins."

"Once a conspiracy was deemed to exist, and even our government in the House Select Committee concluded that there was a probable conspiracy, the Paines had to be viewed as having been involved in it. An assassination Gestalt with the patsy serving as a lightning rod, cannot be successfully completed unless the patsy is delivered to the scene of the killing. Ruth Paine accomplished the crucial twin assassination tasks of getting Oswald into the Dallas area and arranging to get him a job in the Texas Book Depository Building. Therefore, the Paines, albeit on a need-to-know basis, were involved in the plot."

"In whose service were the Paines? Michael Paine came from families which were in the Boston Brahmin society – the Cabot and Forbes families. He was an heir of his maternal grandmother, Elise Cabot Forbes. He was not likely to be controlled by the Soviets, Castro or the Mafia. He had top secret clearance in his job at Bell Helicopter despite the fact that his father, George Lyman Paine, had been a Trotskyist. In Cold War United States to get such clearance when your father had been a Trotskyist, a quid pro quo had to be provided. Ruth Paine’s father was William Avery Hyde, an official in the Agency for International Development, which frequently provided cover for overseas intelligence operations. According to the excellent work of Steve Jones, Barbara LaMonica and Carol Hewett, Ruth Paine’s sister, Sylvia Hoke, had CIA affiliations. Ruth Paine was friendly with George DeMohrenshildt, a sophisticated White Russian exile and CIA operative who, although thirty-five years Oswald’s senior, became Oswald’s closest friend in Dallas. According to recent research in the 1980s Ruth Paine assisted illegal anti-socialist activity in Nicaragua."

"Michael Paine could not have been Soviet, Castro or Mafia agents. They had to be agents of the killing force, our U.S. intelligence. If they had been Soviet or Castro agents, an innocent government would have swooped down on them and seen them as clear beacons leading to the killers. Our government did not cause them any trouble. The Paines are criminal co-conspirators in the killing of President Kennedy and would and should now be prosecuted by a guiltless government."

"The Paines are criminal co-conspirators in the killing of President Kennedy and would and should now be prosecuted by a guiltless government." - Vince Salandria

Ruth H. Paine and Marina Oswald became fast and very close friends from the moment they met at a house party on February 22, 1963 until the day of the assassination, after which they never met or spoke again.

When Marina was asked under oath by Jim Garrision in New Orleans why she broke off her friendship with Ruth Paine, she said she did it on the advice of the Secret Service, who said Paine was affiliated with the CIA.

CIA? If so how?

Well there’s her immediate family – her father who was a big national insurance executive who the CIA approched about doing humanatarian work in Southeast Asia much like John Hinckley’s dad did. Then there’s Ruth’s sister, who worked as a psychologist for the CIA.

Other possibilities include her attendance at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and the Quakers in Philadelphia.

Antioch was founded by Horrace Mann in the 19th century as a radical college that entwined school classes with work in the real world. They did away with grades and had co-ed classes decades before it became popular. Among those who attended Antioch you have Coretta Scott King, Rod Serling of the Twilight Zone, who did a show on Fidel Castro seeing assassins in a mirror, and was himself impersonated in letters to major media outlets during the aftermath of the assassination.

Oh, yea, Max Holland attended Antioch and so did I, as an occassional transfer student from the nearby University of Dayton. I took a class in 1970 on the history of Vietnam, which was taught by a former CIA Chief of Station Siagon, who said Ho Chi Min was the George Washington of Vietnam, and we were backing the wrong side. That was my first indication that Antioch was somehow wired and spooky.
Ruth Paine’s brother, a physican, lives in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and she must have visited him there.

And Oswald is said to have been there too, applying as a student just before he enlisted in the Marines. And Antioch is the only college I know that wouldn’t require a high school diploma. There were Oswald sightings there too, as reported by the Dayton Police Intelligence Squad who investigated after the assassination.

I also attended the Antioch graduate school – the Center for Social Research and Action in Baltimore, where the chief professor was then involved in the Polish Solidarity Union uprising, and one of the students returned from the USSR with early reel to reel video tapes of his Russian wanderings. Another professor got me into the Bethesda Naval hospital, where the autopsy was performed, late at night when it was closed, to attend a board room radio conference call with teachers on South Pacific islands.

The Philadelphia based Society of Friends – aka Quakers – also run a hostel for travelers in Mexico City where Oswald is said to have visited. And when Ruth Paine lived in Philadelphia she occasionally called the Quaker Peace Center where John Judge worked, and they had pleasant conversations over the phone.

Antioch is not your normal college, and when Ruth Paine went to a Quaker center in Nicaragua, keeping tabs on the Sandinistas at the same time the JMWAVE trainers – including John “I.F.” Harper were training the Contras like they had trained the Cuban Pathfinders, she did so with a guy from Antioch. So Ruth Paine was called out of retirement to work with the same team again twenty years later.

[For more on Ruth Paine in Nicaragaua:JFKCountercoup2: Steve Jones - The Confessions of Ruth Paine]

But I don’t think Antioch or the Quakers make the CIA connection, which is much more tight.

As Allen Dulles told one of his biographers, his association with Mary Bancroft and the patrons of the accused assassin would give conspiracy theorists a field day. Well now, fifty years later, we are having that field day.

As detailed in Mary Bancroft’s book “Autobiography of a Spy,” she was a close personal friend of Michael Paine’s mother Ruth Forbes Paine Young. They spent time together at the Forbes family island off Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and traveled together to Europe by steamship before Bancroft moved to Switzerland and began to work with Dulles as his secretary and principal agent in the July 20, 1944 Valkyrie attempt to kill Hitler.

Besides Bancroft’s book, we have other sources for information on the Paine-Bancroft connection, that is mentioned in the Paine Project – that a number of researchers undertook in the 1990s, and should be referenced in a new movie project – a documentary film about Ruth Paine.

In any case Ruth H. Paine visited the Forbes island and Michael’s mother at her farm outside of Philadelphia before driving to New Orleans to pick up Marina, the daughter and the Oswald’s belongings and taking them to Texas while Oswald ostensibly went to Mexico.

While Michael’s mother – Ruth Forbes Paine Young was certainly in the loop, and knew what was going on – was Mary Bancroft and Allen Dulles also “in the loop”?

When I was working at the Archives II in College Park one day, I sat next to former White House lawyer and Watergate celebrity John Dean, who said he was working on a biography of President Warren G. Harding. I asked Dean if he thought Harding’s death of food poisoning on a train was suspicious, and surprisingly he didn’t.

Mary Bancroft’s primary mentor was not Allen Dulles but “C.W.” Barron, who started the Wall Street Jouranl and Barrons magazine, who was certainly suspicious of Harding’s sudden death, as Bancroft relates.

For more from Bancroft and “Autobiography of a Spy” see:

As Bancroft wrote:  “As I come to the end of this story about the first fifty years of my life, I can’t help wondering what….CW…would have to say about it all. CW…would advise, ‘Write it up, Mary! Write it all up!. Then he would add his usual admonition, ‘But remember that facts are not the truth. They only indicate where the truth may lie!’”

Answering Mrs. Paine's Challenge

“Truth Is Our Only Client” film - Ruth Paine’s Challenge

JFK Rapid Response Network

One of the benefits of living in a free and open society is the ability to respond to any and all published, posted, broadcast, streamed or recorded report – and in regards to the assassination of President Kennedy both the Citizens Against Political Assassination (CAPA) and the Truth and Reconciliation Committee (TRC) are cooperating in organizing concerted responses to any story on the assassination, especially in the mainstream media.

This is not a CAPA/TRC response to this film, it is my response to Mrs. Paine's Challenge.

While Dr. Cyril Wecht has been writing unpublished letters to the editors of the New York Times for years now, and I have responded with book reviews and blog posts, the CAPA/TRC will be more organized and targeted, with the first being a response to the documentary film “Truth Is Our Only Client,” which premiered at the Texas Theater in Oak Cliff in Dallas on Sunday, September 22.

Just as Oliver Stone’s movie “JFK” was panned and criticized even before it was released; a cursory review of “Truth Is Our Only Client” certainly indicates that truth is not being well served.

Produced and directed by an associate of Burt Griffin, the film includes interviews with Griffin, Warren Commission lawyers Howard Willens, Richard Mosk and Sam Stern.

It seems hard to believe that Sam Stern, a still-living witness who practices law in D.C., could say something different than what he told the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) – that if the Warren Commission had known about the note Oswald wrote to Hosty that the FBI destroyed, and that the CIA had conspired with the Mafia to kill Fidel Castro, they would have conducted a different investigation.

Sam Stern: “I am less certain now that at the time we wrote the Report. Less certain that Oswald acted alone. Actually, I wasn't all that certain at the time. I thought the best evidence supported the final findings, and I agreed with them, but I wasn't tremendously firm or immovable in that, in my own mind. I just thought there were a lot of straws left.....I have become more skeptical about the Warren Commission findings and everything else that is a part of official life, I suppose. Everything has become discredited over the years since 1963. You don’t really believe in things the way you did back then"

Stern stated that if the staff of the Commission had discovered that the Hosty note had existed and had been destroyed by the FBI in Dallas, that “if we had found out that happened, we would have gone to a full Commission meeting immediately, and would have made the big decision regarding any future relationship between the Commission and the FBI. It just would have gone to the heart of the whole relationship and the Bureau’s motivation. The destruction of that note would have resulted in the ultimate brouhaha.”

Stern stated that had the Commission learned of the CIA-Mafia conspiracies to assassinate Fidel Castro, “we would have gone much more into Cuba, the CIA, and the Mafia. We would have had a whole host of new avenues calling for investigation. And we would have obviously had to develop some new sources of information – other than the agency.”

Now how can Sam Stern say anything different to those producing this film?

“Truth Is Our Only Client” is narrated  by Ohio Judge Brendan Sheehan, who apparently questions some of those interviewed in the two hour and fifteen minute long film also includes Priscilla Johnson McMillan, Bernie Weissman and Ruth Paine.

Although I have important questions for all of these people I want to focus here on Ruth Paine.

MRS. RUTH HYDE PAINE’S  CHALLENGE

Image result for Ruth Paine JFK
Mrs. Ruth Hyde Paine

While I haven’t yet seen the film I will see it and write a review when I get the chance.

In the meantime I want to respond to Ruth Paine’s challenge – “Given the chance, Paine would ask this of everyone who doubts that Oswald killed President Kennedy, or that he acted alone.”

Well I think Oswald acted alone all right, I just don’t think he killed anybody.

[JFKCountercoup2: Mrs. Paine Talks!]

“What do you make of the murder attempt in Dallas seven months earlier on former Army Major General Edwin “Ted” Walker?”

Then there’s mention of the “bombshell” note Oswald wrote instructing his wife Marina on what to do if Oswald “did not return from his mission.”

As for the Walker “mission,” it certainly was a “mission,” – and carried out like a military mission – survey of the area, photos of the house and alley, instructions to his wife, but there are a lot of holes in the official story.

It’s highly unlikely, as the Warren Commission attests, that Oswald took his rifle to Walker’s house by bus, hidding the rifle under his raincoat. Where did he get the bullet that couldn’t be positively matched to the rifle? And if Oswald was the shooter, who was the other fellow seen leaving the scene with him? And did Oswald really bury the rifle in the ground and go back to retrieve it a few days later? And when he returned home, Marina said he was still breathing heavy and hyperventilated for hours afterwards, just the opposite of his cool, calm and collected demeanor described by three witnesses within minutes of the Dealey Plaza shooting, where he is accused of shooting the President’s brains out.

Ruth Paine wants to know -what do I make of the murder attempt on General Walker?

I think it’s really important, especially since FBI Agent Hosty was assigned to the case, and that the Secret Service knew there was a sniper on the loose when JFK came to town, but didn’t do anything about it.

In order to understand the Walker shooting and its relationship to Oswald you have to go back to the February 22, 1963 house party that was set up by George deMohrenschildt at the home of some Magnolia Oil employees – for the expressed purpose of introducing the Oswalds to Michael Paine, who deMohrenschildt thought would be interesting because of their similar ideological beliefs.

Some say that deMohrenschildt was Oswald’s “babysitter,” until he got a job in Haiti, when he passed the Oswalds on to the Paines, which was done by way of the house party arranged for them to meet.

Volkmar Schmidt lived at the house and was room mates with Frederick Pierce, Everett Glover, and Norman Fredrickson, whose father worked for Radio Free Europe.

Although Michael Paine didn’t show up for the party, Marina Oswald did meet Michael’s wife Ruth Hyde Paine and they became fast friends – until the day of the assassination, after which they would never speak again.

When Marina testified in New Orleans she was asked why she refused to associate with Ruth Paine after the assassination she said the Secret Service advised her not to because of Ruth Paine’s associations with the CIA.

At the party where they met, while Marina and Ruth Paine talked Russian in the kitchen, Oswald sat down for a nearly three hour conversation with Volkmar Schmidt, a German who was recruited by Magnolia in Europe.

He is not to be confused with or related to Larry Schmidt, a former Walker soldier in Germany who relocated to Dallas, knew Bernard Weissman, and “infiltrated” Walker’s group.

Schmidt explained to me that he was raised by the family of a close friend, whose father was a Heidelberg Professor – Whilhelm Kuetemeyer – and he used a “reverse psychology” technique on Oswald that was taught to him by Kuetemeyer.

As Schmidt told me Kuetemeyer “was certainly, and many of his friends were in the circle of those who tried to kill Hitler, Stauffenberg, and several of his close friends were executed.”

I asked Schmidt if he mentioned General Walker when he talked with Oswald.

Schmidt: “Yes, Professor Kuetemeyer told me you know, to deal with people like this who are disturbed, you have to use empathy, be slightly over zealous yourself to like up with them and that total insanity, towards reality. When I heard how hateful he was towards Kennedy and Cuba, which was kind of irrational, I tried to say ‘hey, there’s something much more real to be concerned about,’ because I don’t know about Castro, but I know about this Walker, he’s kind of a Nazi, yea? Not so bad as those Nazis in Germany, but I had specifically mentioned to Lee Harvey Oswald, that Walker had given a speech to the students at the Mississippi campus and those guys went off and killed a couple of journalists.”

Schmidt told Oswald that Walker should be killed like Hitler should have been killed before he got too powerful.

“Do you think your conversation with Oswald about Walker may have instigated him to take a pot shot at him?” I asked.

Schmidt: “Yes, he did, and naturally it was a terrible responsibility, and for years when I drove past the underpass I literally had to cry because, you know. But I exonerate myself completely because I had the best intent, embarrass Kennedy, and I certainly didn’t tell him to take a pot shot at him….I may have triggered it. Actually, a few days after I talked with him, he bought his weapons.”

So Phil Shenon can write an entire book around a "Twist Party" in Mexico that Oswald didn't attend, and where he was not encouraged by Cubans to kill Kennedy, but nobody is interested in the real party where Oswald was encouraged to commit a political assassination - one that he is actually accused of doing.

That was just the first mention of the July 20, 1944 Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler, a recurring theme in the JFK assassination narrative.

The April 10, 1963 date of the Walker shooting coincides with a major news event that took place that morning – the accidental sinking of the nuclear submarine USS Thresher, a subject that is also worth elaborating on, as I will do.

Shortly thereafter Ruth Paine gave Oswald a ride to the bus station and then drove Marina and the Oswald’s belongings including the rifle to New Orleans, though continued to correspond with Marina by mail throughout the summer of 1963.

In one letter, the only record of which I can find is in Gerald Ford’s book “Portrait of the Assassin,” Ruth Paine asks the pregnant Marina if she would like to move in with her at her home in Irving until she has the baby. To respond, Ruth instructs Marina - to write to her in care of c/o Arthur Young - Paoli, Pennsylvania.

[Now the only other reference to Paoli, Pa. I have in my files is the fact Paoli is the Main Line town that is home to the CIA front Catherwood Foundation, which a Philadelphia Magazine article (by Michael Malowe) implied was somehow linked to Ruth Paine when she lived in Philadelphia, though I have yet to find that link. It may have something to do with the Catherwood Fund's financing of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, which had a parish in Dallas that the Texas Russians were affiliated with. For more see: JFKcountercoup: Catherwood Fund ]

"C/O Arthur Young" - When I read that I wondered who was Arthur Young? Was he a another pawn or a major player?  Actually it was both, as I learned that he was the eccentric inventor of the Bell Helicopter and third husband of Ruth Forbes Paine Young – Michael Paine’s mother.

JFKcountercoup: The Last Interview with ARTHUR MIDDLETON YOUNG

While Arthur Young is one of the most interesting people I have ever met – and I’ve met my share – it is Michael’s mother who is a key to understanding what we want to know.

Ruth Forbes Paine was married to Lyman Paine – Michael’s father – a founder of the Trotskyite Communist Party in the USA, a significant fact since Oswald subscribed to the Trotskyite Militant newspaper, which he is seen holding in the backyard photo, along with the rifle and pistol. Before George deMohrenschildt left for Haiti Oswald gave him a copy of the photo inscribed with the notation: "Hunter of Fascists! Ha Ha."

In addition, Michael’s mother was a big supporter of Cord Meyer, Jr.’s World Federalists, a United Nations support organization that also included Priscilla Johnson (McMillan), who attended college near Arthur Young’s farm in suburban Philadelphia, and CBS news anchor Walter Cronkite.

But most significantly, Ruth Forbes Paine Young was a close personal friend and European traveling companion to Mary Bancroft. On a steamship voyage with Ruth Forbes Paine, Bancroft met a Swiss businessman who she married. In Berne, Bancroft met OSS officer Allen Dulles, became his personal secretary, paramour, and principal contact with German Gestapo officer Hans Bernd Gisivious, a principal participant in the July 20, 1944 plot to kill Hitler. (See: Bancroft's "Autobio of a Spy."

On her late summer vacation road trip, which Ruth H. Paine apparently took every year visiting relatives, she visited Michael’s mom at the Forbes family Naushon Island off Woods Hole, Massachusetts, and then Arthur Young’s farm outside Philadelphia. Others known to visit Naushon Island include Mary Bancroft and Walter Cronkite, who had standing permission to put his sailing yacht into the cove there.

We know Mrs. Paine visited the Young farm near Paoli because she apparently received Marina’s letter there agreeing to the new living arrangements. After leaving the Youngs’ Mrs. Paine drove to New Orleans, where she spent the night before driving Marina, the daughter and the Oswald’s belongings, including the rifle, to Texas, while Oswald ostensibly went to Mexico.

The date – September 24-25, was a busy day on what David Talbot calls “The Devil’s Chessboard,” as a number of pawns were being moved around the board. Besides Mrs. Paine driving Marina to Texas and Oswald leaving New Orleans for Mexico, a few days before Richard Case Nagell went into a Texas bank, shot a bullet into the ceiling and waited to be arrested.

Meanwhile on September 25th in Washington D.C., the CIA’s chief of the Cuban Task Force W. – Desmond FitzGerald briefed the Joint Chiefs of Staff on CIA covert operations against Cuba that could require military assistance.

FitzGerald was not a pawn, but rather a rook, bishop or knight - somebody who could move around quickly and retreat easily.

U.S. Marine General Victor “Brute” Krulak was responsible for any such military assistance to the CIA, so his adjunct Colonel Walter Higgins attended the meeting and kept notes, which include the key paragraph:

“He (FitzGerald) commented that there was nothing new in the propaganda field. However, he felt that there had been great success in getting closer to the military personnel who might break with Castro, and stated that there were at least ten high-level military personnel who are talking with CIA but as yet are not talking to each other, since that degree of confidence has not yet developed. He considers it as a parallel in history; i.e., the plot to kill Hitler; and this plot is being studied in detail to develop an approach.”

Keeping tabs on this, besides Volkmar Schmidt mentioning the July 20, 1944 German military Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler during his “reverse psychology” talk with Oswald, saying how General Walker should be killed as Hitler should have been, and Michael Paine’s mother being a close personal friend and traveling companion with Mary Bancroft, a principal agent in the Valkyrie plot, we now have the CIA engaged in a “detailed study” of the plot in order to “develop an approach” to use against Castro.

To paraphrase Ian Fleming, who once mentioned in a James Bond novel - that if something happens once it could be happenstance, twice could be a coincidence, but three times is determined action.

In response to Mrs. Paine’s challenge – to resolve the fact that Oswald was involved in the Walker shooting – it does not simply mean that because he tried to kill someone else that he is responsible for killing the president, but rather it is clear the Walker shooting was just one of a number of related operational “missions,” that are intertwined and must be understood that way.

The Walker shooting, the Houma Bunker raid, Oswald's defection, the Bay of Pigs, Gary Power's U2, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Oswald's report to the Seminary, the New Orleans FPCC, Odio visit, Mexico City, and looking backwards - the Civil Air Patrol and learning Russian in the USMC, were all operational missions that provide context to the Dealey Plaza Operation that resulted in the death of the President.

While I can’t imagine Ruth Paine sitting around Naushon Island sipping tea with Michael’s mom and Mary Bancroft and discussing the plot to kill Hitler, that's what we are expected to believe how she learned of the job opening at the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) at a morning coffee klatch with neighbors.

It just so happens that D. H. Byrd, the owner of the TSBD, was a founder of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) with Cord Meyer, Sr., an organization that Oswald and David Ferrie were affiliated with in New Orleans.

And at the time of the assassination, Byrd was on an African safari with a German who was also associated with the July 20, 1944 plot to kill Hitler.

What is also surprising is the fact that shortly after the murder of President Kennedy, while every news media in the United States was concentrating on stories about the assassination, an obscure German newspaper scooped all of them with the fact that Oswald was suspected of being involved in the Walker shooting. How did that happen?

There are other references to the Valkyrie plot to kill Hitler in the course of the JFK assassination narrative, but in response to Jim Lesar’s FOIA request for the CIA’s “detailed study” of the Valkyrie plot to be used against Castro – the CIA claimed it not only could not find that study, but it has no records of the July 20, 1944 plot to kill Hitler among any of its files, a court case that is continuing today.

As Max Holland's wife - a distinguished American University professor once advised, "look for patterns," and we can certainly see a pattern developing here.
