JFK Records for Beginners - Rules for Researchers

JFK Research for Beginners - Rules for Researchers  - By Bill Kelly

Deciding to learn about the assassination of President Kennedy has been described as entering “the Rabbit’s Hole,” or entering the “Wilderness of Mirrors,” a vast morass you can’t easily wade through without getting lost or stuck.

Fortunately, and thanks to those who have gone before us, the Rabbit’s Hole and House of Mirrors is well mapped out and a lot easier to navigate than the first generation of researchers found.

Before you begin or even look at the maps, you have to take a pre-requisite linguistics class on the lexicon.

When the owner of the Atlantic City Country Club asked me to write the 100 year history of his golf club, I told him that I didn’t play golf or know much about the game, and he said he had two thousand golfers and he needed a researcher and writer. Club golf pro told me that all I had to do was learn the lingo of golf –the lexicon, and the rest would come easy, such as the term ‘birdie’ meant one under par for the hole, a term that had been coined there, and so came my second book “Birth of the Birdie.”

And just as David Maurer, the Kentucky linguist, went into the underworld of criminals to learn their slang terms, and came out with the key to the Big Con confidence games –ala The Sting, in order to understand what happened at Dealey Plaza you have to learn how to read documents, translate codes, and identify aliases with the true name of persons.

Now that many of the most significant JFK assassination records are digitalized on line and can be accessed with a computer connected to the internet, it’s a lot easier to become an armchair detective instead of having to actually go to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), become a research associate, and travel to the Archives II in College Park, Maryland to review a cart of documents that you had requested the day or week before.

The Archives II was funded in 1992 as part of the Congressionally mandated JFK Act, and is one of a number of remote archives, including Presidential Libraries run by the NARA, under Archivist of the United States (AOTUS) David Ferriero. The old, original Archives building, in downtown Washington D.C. (Across the street from the Hard Rock CafĂ©), has the theater where the first Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) hearings were held, and offices, it has a famous statute on the front steps that reads: “The Past Is Prologue,” a Shakespeare quote. The JFK Collection is housed at the Archives II, about fifteen miles north of Washington near the University of Maryland.

The digitalized documents on line are just the tip of the perverbial iceberg, as the JFK Collection at the Archives II also includes the main evidence in the murder of President Kennedy, including the rifle said to have been the murder weapon, the Zapruder Film, and other key elements in the crime.

Besides the hard evidence, films, videos, tape recordings and emails, there are what they call “textural” records, or documents, of which there are over 5 million, most of which have not been scanned and digitalized and put on line, as the most recently released documents were.

Even the textural documents can be broken down into categories – such as index cards, handwritten notes, typewritten reports, memos, cables and transcripts of interviews.

While another set of rules apply to those who actually visit the Archives II, this will be a primer for those who want to review the JFK assassination records that are posted on line, beginning with the NARA web site where they were first posted. The NARA, in ignoring the JFK Act provision that requires the Archivist to provide the public with a guide and index to the JFK Collection, has instead posted a completely useless web site that has not been updated in years, but has been over-rided by three private sites that are much more easily navigated.

Mary Ferrell, a Dallas legal secretary, was one of the first generation of researchers to keep a good record of everything that had to do with the assassination, and she began with index cards on subjects and persons and a very useful chronology file, a collection she sold to a software developer who had researcher Rex Bradford scan and post the most significant records she had and what were released by the NARA.

The MaryFerrell.org web site has been responsible for much of the best new work on the assassination to date.

While the Mary Ferrell site was a lone pioneer, two others have entered the fray, including the good folks at the Blackvault.com, where they copied all of the records from NARA and made a more workable search engine.

Then the Microsoft research team, in order to make a case study of a subject to test their new software application, chose the newly released JFK records and pumped them all through their black box machine and came out with some very interesting results, as one Microsoft engineer put it: “We just ran all the content through, and right away you could see that the CIA, the FBI and even Cuba were involved in all this.”

Now in dealing with textural JFK Assassination documents the first thing you need to know is what they call the “RIF” number – Record Identification Form – that begins with a number – three digits – the first of which relates to the agency of origin – FBI, CIA, State, etc.

For example: 157-10014-10049 is the RIF Record Identification number, with 157 signifying the SSCIA - Senate Select Committee on Intelligence Activities - AKA the Church Committee is the originator, while 180-10143-10299 is a House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) record as the 180 indicates.

Each RIF page – the first page of every record – will tell you a lot – the agency of origin, the topic, subjects, number of pages – some documents are hundreds of pages long, others just a one page memo, but every record should have a RIF number that you can always refer to, site as a source and easily return to.

Most of the search engines – Mary Ferrell-Blackvault-Microsoft use name or subject traces, as well as the RIF number, so you can type in a name – David Atlee Phillips, John Rosselli, William Harvey, and come up with hundreds of documents you can brouse, or you can review them according to the Subject file, or date.

As James Jesus Angleton told Thomas Powers, one of the first things you do in beginning a Counter-Intelligence investigation is to create a Chronology of relevant events so everything can be more easily understood, and while Mary Ferrell had the best Chronology when she was alive, she has been super seeded by Ira David Wood’s JFK Assassination Chronology –

Besides the RIF numbers, name and subject files and chronology, it is also necessary to learn the language and techniques of what Allen Dulles called The Crafts of Intelligence.

First off there’s the acronyms – abbreviations using the first letter of a title – as in POTUS – President of the United States, and ACSI – Army Chief of Staff for Intelligence, CIA – Central Intelligence Agency, FBI, etc.

Then there are very specific operational terms – as an Agent is a very different person than an intelligence Officer or an intelligence Asset – who can be a willing asset or unwitting asset who does what you want without knowing the full program.

Most CIA Officers are what David Maurer and the Big Con artists call “Inside Men,” who operate from a desk with a telephone and give instructions and directions, and are usually suave and sophisticated – such as Ted Shackley and Desmond Fitzgerald, while the “Outside Men” operate in what they call “In the field,” - on the street, interacting with their agents, operatives and assets – such as David Phillips and William Harvey.

Official Officers and Agents work out of an embassy under cover, while others operate apart from the embassy, under commercial or business cover, usually using an alias and fake identity that will withstand a background check.

When they communicate in memos, cables or letters, they use a crypt code that is only known to them – such as KUBARAK is the crypt code they used for the CIA Headquaters in Langley, Va., while JMWAVE was the code for the largest CIA base in the world at the old South Campus at the University of Miami, Florida.

Peter Dale Scott, Bill Simpich, John Newman, Rex Bradford and Malcolm Blunt have all contributed to the lists of aliases, codes, crypts and ciphers that are used by those involved in the JFK assassination story, so visiting the lists composed so far at MaryFerrell.org will give you a good idea of what you are up against in trying to make sense of some of the more obscure JFK assassination documents.

Besides the official NARA JFK Collection web site, and the three searchable data bases, there are other good sources for JFK Assassination records including Baylor University library, JFKFacts.org, JFK Lancer, Kennedys & Kings, Hood College, Sixth Floor Oral History Project, and of course CAPA-US.org.

RULES FOR RESEARCHERS  - Part 2

For those who are serious about diving into the JFK assassination records, I have some further advice.

DOUBLE IDENTITIES

For starters, as every researcher has learned over time, beware of the duel and double identities - different individuals with the same name. This occurs again and again, and should be recognized as soon as possible to avoid future confusion.

I mean there are two Bill Kellys – the Florida immigrant investigator who concentrated on the Cubans, and Bill Kelly – the JFK assassination researcher from New Jersey.

We even found another John Judge – a rock musician who promoted a duel head guitar, and John Judge the radical researcher from Washington D.C.

In addition, there are a number of JFK assassination suspects with the same name – including Jack Martin – the first suspect in the assassination – a Dallas college student from Northern Louisiana who picketed the UN ambassador when he visited Dallas, and Jack Martin (Scruggs) who was the first witness to implicate David Ferrie and Guy Bannister as associates of Oswald in New Orleans.

There were two Maurice Bishops – the pseudo name of David Atlee Phillips in his undercover operations involving Antonio Veciana, and the Maurice Bishop who was the socialist leader of Grenada when the US invaded the Central American island nation.

Then there are multiple “Julio Fernandez”  - the former Cuban newspaper editor and defector who was investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police, his son, a Penn State art student, and the Julio Fernandez who served as a JMWAVE commando team leader whose maritime cover t actions were financially supported by Clare Booth Luce. When the CIA was asked for their file on Julio Fernandez, they came up with over a dozen individuals with the same name, but neither the newspaper editor or the commando team leader was included. And for good reason.

Others double identities are found in Donald Norton and Donald P. Norton. One is a guy who looks like Oswald and says he met him, and the other is a fisherman. Another Don Norton wrote a book on the history of defense industry company.

There's even another Bill Kelly - a Miami police investigator assigned to the Cuban Squad.

BASIC ASSUMPTIONS

There are a number of basic assumptions that we must make before beginning research.

1)      We can assume that since the assassination was not the spontaneous act of a mad man, it was a very well planned and crafted operation – a covert intelligence operation.

2)      As a covert intelligence operation, standard covert intelligence operational techniques were utilized, techniques that are well known and easily identified.

3)      Just as linguist David Maurer had to learn the unique slang used in the criminal underworld before he could learn and understand the basic factors of the Big Con confidence games, we must learn the unique lexicon of the intelligence world. For instance there is a difference between Agents, Operatives and Assets, and subcategories of each – such as Witting Assets and Unwitting Assets, and five different types of Agents – Inside, Native, Living, Double and Expendable.

4)      One of the first basic standard operational procedures begins with giving a code name to each operation – and the assassination of President Kennedy had a covert operational code name that we will someday learn – some say it was ZIPPER, but for now we will refer to it as the Dealey Plaza Operation – or DPO.

5)      Other assumptions ?

OTHER ASSUMPTIONS

Some of the assumptions we make after an analysis of the basic evidence and facts of the case inc
Include

a)      The assassination of the President was not the work of one man alone, but a covert intelligence operation that utilized standard covert intelligence operational crafts and techniques that are well known and easily identified.

b)      If the assassination was a covert intelligence operation it was not a “rogue” operation or one committed by an independent or out of control agency or network, but was “officially” sanctioned, and a coup de’etat, so those who killed the President also took over the reigns of power and changed policy, so that narrows down the suspects consiserably.

c)      If the assassination was a covert action coup and standard covert operational coup techniques were utilized, then according to Edward Lutwak, author of Coup d’etat – A Practical Handbook, those who conducted the operation on the ground in Dallas controlled the scenes of the crime – Dealey Plaza and the Texas School Book Depository (TSBD) and it was planned and carried out to the minute, if not seconds.

d)      If the Practical Handbook for a coup was used, as it must have been, then those overseeing the assassination operation controlled the communications, not only the communications among those involved on the ground, but the major communications to news outlets and the media.

e)      The assassination was committed by an intelligence network that was affiliated with CIA operations involved in Cuban operations – limiting the scope of research to the Cuban arena.

f)       The assassination was originally devised as a plan to kill Fidel Castro, and redirected to JFK at Dealey Plaza,

g)      The assassination plan as originally devised included a security cover story to blame the assassination on Castro Cuban Communists, a part of the plan that was rejected and can be shown not only to be false, but a covert black propaganda disinformation psychological warfare program.

h)      Tracing the origins of the CCC cover story will lead directly to those responsible for the Dealey Plaza Operation and its sponsors;

RESEARCH TECHNIQUES

There are a number of research techniques that can be used to assist us in narrowing down the information to what is needed and necessary.

WALT WHITMAN’S LETTERS

Over a hundred years after the death of America’s poet laureient Walt Whitman, when every Whitman scholar believed we had every poem and article penned by Whitman in the public domain, and there was nothing new under the sun, along comes a Whitman scholar who came up with a new idea and discovered thousands of never before known Whitman letters that were just sitting there among the shelves of the National Archives.

Being familiar with Whitman’s handwriting and signature, he thought that if he went through the early Civil War records of the Department of Justice, where Whitman worked as a secretary for a year, he would discover a few new official letters that Whitman wrote in the course of his work there. And Alas! He didn’t find a few, he found thousands of them! Which will take Whitman scholars years to wade through and weight their significance.

This story was told by the Archivist of the United States (AOTUS) David Ferriaro in his AOTUS blog.

Ferriero is also responsible for overseeing the JFK Act is carried out, and despite being an advocate of transparency and open records, advised the President to continue withholding JFK assassination records for years past the October 2017 release date set by Congress and the JFK Act.

But the Whitman story is worth knowing as it shows how a little ingenuity can bring major results.

THREE TIME HITS

As Max Holland’s historian wife has advised him, we should look for patterns, and I have devised what I call Three Time Hits. Whenever a person or place or subject comes up twice in unrelated areas, take notice and when it happens three times – begin a file on it. As Ian Fleming of 007 fame said, one time is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is enemy action.

Collins Radio was the first time I utilized the Three Time Hits technique, as I first took notice of them in the pre-assassination November 1, 1963 front page story and photo of the CIA raider ship REX, docked at Palm Beach, Florida near the President’s family home. The Rex had delivered teams of commandos who had high powered rifles with scope. According to the official record the Rex was owned by Belcher Oil company of Miami and leased to the Collins Radio Corporation for research purposes.

Then I read that J.D. Tippit’s good friend Carl Mather worked for Collins Radio and being there was his alibi at the time of Tippit’s murder. Then I learned that the Air Force One radios were manufactured by Collins and their Cedar Rapids, Iowa relay station – known as “Liberty” station, coordinated not only the radio traffic for Air Force One and other Executive air planes, but also the Strategic Air Command (SAC) bombers.

And now I have a very thick file on Collins Radio and its role in strategic communications.
After Collins Radio, my Three Time Hits (TTH) technique came into play again as I read about how Jack Ruby flew to Miami from Havana with a suitcase of cash that he obtained from the casino owning Fox brothers, and deposited it for them in the Pan Am – Pan American Bank of Miami, which he dutifully did.

Then I read in the HSCA reports that Robert Ray M cKeown  the pro-Castro gun runner who Castro visited when he came to America, had also been visited by Jack Ruby, who was interested in using his influence with Castro to get  Santo Traficante out of an Havana retention facility. As McKeown had flew guns to Castro in the mountains before his revolution, he said he was paid in cash wrapped in Pan Am Bank wrappers.

That’s two ostensibly unrelated associations with the Pan Am Bank of Miami.

Then there is the clincher.Anti-Castro Cuban terrorists Antonio Veciana told Congressional investigator Gaeton Fonzi, that his spy master and case officer “Maurice Bishop,” after recruiting him, had Veciana take psychological warfare lessons and sign a security agreement in an office in the Pan Am Bank in Miami, Florida.

I wasn’t surprised when I obtained (through Malcolm Blunt) – Fonzi’s notes from his tape recorded interview with former CIA gunsmith Mitch Werbell, who Fonzi recorded in his notes, told him that the Pan Am Bank in Miami was a CIA asset and used in the course of operations.

Unfortunately, Fonzi’s tape recorded interview has been erased, or otherwise destroyed, and many – and that’s probably most of the Church Committee recorded interviews are missing.

Which brings us to Peter Dale Scott’s “Negative-Template” thesis, which maintains that the most significant Deep Political records are the ones that are missing or have been destroyed, a thesis that we have found to be correct.

NEGATIVE TEMPLATE

Peter Dale Scott’s NEGATIVE-TEMPLATE – The Missing and Destroyed Records

As Peter Dale Scott’s Deep Political thesis contemplates, the Deep Political state runs on secrecy and the absences of official records, so of all the extant documents and records, the ones that are destroyed or missing are the most significant. And while we may not have them, we do have references to them, we know what people who wrote them or read them say is in them, and in some cases, as with the Tampa SS advance report, we can locate copies at remote locations. We also have the names of those who wrote them, or the subject matter, so we can surmise what is in them.
After my conversation with Judge John Tunheim, at the National Press Club in Washington DC last March (2017), I composed a list of records we knew at one time existed but are now missing.

And Bill Simpich has composed a list of records know to have been destroyed.

All of these extensive lists give us a good idea of what pieces of the puzzle are missing and allows us to try to fill them in with the proper information.

RFK and JFK - Set Up as Marks in a Big Con Sting

RFK and JFK - Set Up as Marks in a Big Con Sting - By Bill Kelly

Image result for JFK and RFK

The first Tuesday in June 2018 is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, an event that is still being debated as to who was responsible, much like the murder of his brother President John F. Kennedy.

Actually there were a string of political assassinations that are related in that if the murder of Medger Evers was properly investigated and prosecuted, JFK would not have been killed in the same manner, and JFK’s unresolved homicide led directly to the murders of MLK, RFK and Malcolm X.

The assassination of President Kennedy can be shown to have been not only a conspiracy, because the official version of events that begin and end with a deranged lone gunman can be demonstrated to be false, but was a more distinct type of conspiracy – a covert intelligence operation.

While such operations are designed to be deceptive and shield those responsible, and most successful covert intelligence operations go unnoticed, they become clearly visible and embarrassing when they fail, like the Bay of Pigs and Watergate.

The Dealey Plaza operation was not a plot so much as it was a plan, a very distinct plan developed and designed to kill Fidel Castro with a high powered rifle as he rode in an open jeep, a plan that included a psychological warfare cover-story to blame the murder on communists, a plan that was presented to the National Security Council’s Cuban Task Force for approval and was “disapproved by higher authority.”

That plan to kill Castro was then re-directed to the higher authority at Dealey Plaza, and included the framing of Oswald for the crime and the blaming of Castro for the operation that was meant to be seen as a Castro Cuban Communist conspiracy, what Peter Dale Scott calls the “Phase One” scenario.

On the night of the assassination however, as Oswald was being charged with “furthering a communist conspiracy,” the Phase One scenario was replaced with the “Phase Two” cover story of the assassination being the work of a deranged lone nut case – Lee Harvey Oswald.

LBJ himself, holed up with his top aides in his Vice President’s Executive Office Building suite, made the decision not to accept the Phase One Castro Cuban Commie cover story because, as he told Texas authorities, acceptance of it would lead to World War III and 200 million deaths.

LBJ used the same reasoning to convince Supreme Court Justice Earl Warren to lead the Warren Commission, whose report would conclude that one man alone was responsible for what happened at Dealey Plaza. One of the first things Warren did was to arrange for the military to assign an official Pentagon historian to work with him and write the narrative of the Warren Report, and they sent Alfred Goldberg. Warren wanted his report to be readable and Goldberg, who is still alive today, wrote that narrative, as well as the chapter on responding to conspiracy allegations.

Now we need to come up with an alternative narrative, one that explains what really happened rather than just pin the blame on a deranged loner, or Castro Commies.

But it is the very failure of the Phase One Castro Cuban Commie cover story, that is regularly brought back and reissued whenever the Phase Two scenario fades, and reasserts the fact that the intelligence network responsible for the Dealey Plaza operation is still functioning and promoting the idea Castro was behind the murder, as former CIA agents Brien Letell and Robert Baer have done, and Phil Shennon continues to do.

But it wasn’t just Oswald who was framed for the crime as the self-professed Patsy, and Castro, who was to take the blame for the crime he didn’t commit, but JFK and RFK were also set up like Marks in a Big Con Sting.

As John Newman has clearly demonstrated, the half-hearted attempts to kill Castro were half-hearted because Castro had to be alive on November 22, 1963 when he was to be made responsible for killing the President, as the original plan and cover story allowed.

It is the very failure of that aspect of the plan – that gives us insight into those actually responsible for the crime, as former House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) investigator Dan Hardway noticed, almost all of the sources to the false story that Castro directed Oswald and was responsible for the Dealey Plaza operation are all agents or media assets of former CIA officer David Atlee Phillips. Now there aren’t a few of these, but dozens of serials, and each one when tracked back to its origin is clearly part of the same intelligence network Phillips was associated with at that time.

Just as the CIA and Cubans trained at JMWAVE were designing contingency plans to kill Castro – like PATHFINDER for instance, they were frustrated when these plans were “disapproved by higher authority.”

In his book “Intelligence Wars,” Thomas Powers, a 30 year veteran of the Council on Foreign Relations, includes the assassination of President Kennedy as a sensitive subject, but it is clear from the record that JFK was a victim of the intelligence wars and not a deranged loner.

Robert F. Kennedy, the attorney general, was also compromised, blackmailed if you will, so he could not properly respond to his brother’s murder, by branding him as being responsible for the CIA plots to kill Castro, establishing a hypothetical motive for Castro to retaliate.

Powers says there is a “bushel” of evidence that supports the idea that JFK ordered, approved and knew about the CIA plots to kill Castro, but when you look at the evidence closely it is a bushel of bull shit.

Powers writes: “The assassination of John F. Kennedy was one of the great traumatic events in American history, and the possibility that he was guilty of intending what his killer was guilty of doing was more than Kennedy loyalists were willing to admit.”

Powers names Kennedy aide Arthur Schlesinger as one of the Kennedy “loyalists” unwilling to admit that JFK had ordered the murder of Castro, or at least knew of the CIA plans to do so, yet Schlesinger was also unaware of JFK’s backchannel communications with Castro via Lisa Howard, William Attwood and Carlos Lechuga at the United Nations.

It just so happens that Attwood, Kennedy’s former prep school roommate, introduced JFK to Mary Pinchot Meyer, who became JFK’s paramour, and wife of CIA officer Cord Meyer, a major player in the assassination drama. And it is pretty peculiar that Lechuga, a former Cuban ambassador to Mexico, had an affair with Sylvia Duran, the women Oswald dealt with at the Cuban embassy in Mexico City and a primary source of the Castro Cuban Commie Phase One cover story.

When Anthony Summers asked Arthur Schlesinger about the back channel communications between JFK and Castro, that were on-going at the time of JFK’s murder, Schlesinger said that if the anti-Castro Cubans knew about those back channel talks it would have been enough motive for them to kill Kennedy. And it appears that the anti-Castro Cubans were tipped off about the negotiations and were so motivated to kill JFK.

RFK was compromised, as Sam Halpern, Thomas Powers, Joe Califano, Desmond FitsGerald and others have suggested, by his insistence the covert operations against Cuba be intensified, including the plans to kill Castro. But when RFK was told of the CIA-Mafia plots, he put an end to them.

RFK was however, introduced to some of the CIA JMWAVE case officers at a Miami safe house, and was flown by helicopter into a remote Everglades training base where he met with some of the anti-Castro Cubans being trained for infiltration missions into Cuba.

As Powers writes: “On the day his brother was shot to death in Dallas, Texas, Robert F. Kennedy asked the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, John McCone, point-blank, if the CIA had been responsible for the murder. It is hard to know which is more remarkable – that Kennedy wasn’t sure of the answer, or that he expected to hear the truth either way. McCone of course, said no, and there is no evidence that Kennedy ever doubted him, but that only narrowed the list of suspects in his mind….(including) Castro himself, who had been marked for death by Kennedy’s government, who knew it, and who had warned that two could play at that game.”

“But behind those suspicions, never resolved, lay a still darker fear in the mind of Robert Kennedy: that he himself, if any of the four had been established as the guilty party, could not have escaped at least some measure of responsibility for arousing and stroking the anger that resulted in his brother’s assassination.”

“When Kennedy after much agonizing broke ranks with the administration over Vietnam, calling the war a ‘horror’ in a Senate speech in March 1967, Johnson was instantly back at him with a poisonous leak to the Washington Post columnist Drew Pearson, who flatly accused Kennedy of masterminding an effort to assassinate Fidel Castro. Had Kennedy’s plan ‘backfired against his late brother’? Pearson wondered. Was it possible the senator had been ‘plagued by the terrible thought that he had helped put into motion terrible forces that indirectly may have brought about his brother’s martyrdom? Some insiders think so.”

“The question must have been a painful one,” Powers wrote, “But guilt was only one of the torments which entered Robert Kennedy’s life with Jack’s assassination. With it also came a fatalism hard to distinguish from despair and the onset of a new spiritual sensitivity as tender as a wound that would not heal…”

Powers wrote a biography of former CIA director Richard Helms, one approved by Helms himself, and he quotes Helms telling Henry Kissinger that the CIA’s “Family Jewels” files are “just the tip of the iceberg,” and that “If they come out, blood will flow. For example, Robert Kennedy personally managed the operation on the assassination of Castro.”

While Powers can’t bother with it, he says that Max Holland and Seymour Hersh “are still on the case,” and they “learned recently the name of the CIA intelligence officer named to serve as liaison with the attorney general during the year in which he continually pressed the CIA for results in getting rid of Castro – a career intelligence officer, now dead, named Charles Ford. According to Ford’s office-mate Sam Halpern, a CIA officer also assigned to Task Force W in the agency’s effort to get rid of Castro, Ford traveled hither and yon about the country on Robert Kennedy’s business, but there public knowledge comes to an end….Whether still-classified CIA files can fill out the story of Ford’s work for Bobby remains unknown but it’s likely, just as it is likely no one will be given free range of the files until many, many additional years have passed, if then.”

In an article Powers wrote for the New York Review of Books in February 1999, he asks us to: “Think of the CIA’s files as the nation’s unconscious. There you may find the evidence, like the gouges on rock where a glacier has passed, of what American leaders really thought, really wanted, and really did – important clues to who we are as a people. Does this eternal battle over access to the files make sense when few still care what happened at the Bay of Pigs? Does it matter whether we are permitted to haul up the last piece of paper to the light of day before letting it rest? There is no right answer, just personal preference: some would rather know, and some would rather not.”

Well now we know, as Charles Ford’s HSCA interviews and his notes of what he did at JMWAVE that year are now public papers among those released by the NARA under the JFK Act, and reflect the following:

Charles Ford was born in Atlantic City, NJ and attended Princeton before joining the Army during WWII and serving as a translator in the Office of Strategic Services. One OSS report has Ford being sent on a mission to China with another OSS officer J. Walton Moore, who would become the CIA Domestic Contacts Division officer in Dallas at the time of the assassination.

After graduating from Princeton Ford would serve most of his CIA career in the office of Training, except for that one year at Task Force W in the CIA basement, working with the Cubans undercover with an alias. When questioned by the HSCA Ford denied that he ever served as an intermediary between RFK and mobsters in the plots to kill Castro, as Hersh, Holland, Halpern and Powers have alleged, but since that doesn’t fit their conspiracy theory you won’t hear it from them.

And now we have the CIA’s assassination files, and can, in Powers words “haul up that last piece of paper to the light of day before letting it rest.”

That record clearly indicates that JFK was not the victim of a deranged lone nut case or a Castro Cuban Commie conspiracy, but was a victim of what Powers calls “Intelligence Wars,” and both JFK and RFK were set up as Marks and killed by the powers that be, truths we will learn before letting them rest.

[Note: I will post the links to some of the records I refer to ASAP, including the OSS report, and Charles Ford's notes. ]

The Last Interview with ARTHUR MIDDLETON YOUNG

THE LAST INTERVIEW WITH ARTHUR MIDDLETON YOUNG

By William Kelly

Photo of Arthur Young flying an early model helicopter

His name is not as famous as Sikorsky or Bell, but Arthur Middleton Young was the engineering genius who invented the first commercially approved helicopter - the Bell 47A - best known as the glass bubble and girders MASH helicopter.

While Young died in 1996 at the age of 89, I visited him a few months before his death and recorded an informal interview with him.

After talking with him on the phone to arrange an interview, I read his books, one a biographical recollection of his inventing the helicopter and the other on his philosophy - a theory of process. I also looked up news clipping and the last published interview with him I could find was dated 1966.

I was interested in how Young invented the helicopter, but I came to him through the back door so to speak, as Arthur Young is one of the most interesting and elusive characters to populate the literature on the assassination of President Kennedy.

Not mentioned in the Warren Report or any of the vast numbers of books that have been written on the subject, Young almost escaped notice until former Warren Commissioner Rep. Gerald Ford (R. Michigan) published a book "Portrait of the Assassin" that he co-wrote with a campaign manager John Stiles. Ford was criticized for having used then secret government records on the assassinatioin that were unavailable to historians or the public.

In his book Ford says that Marina Oswald, the accused assassin's pregnant wife, received a letter in New Orleans from her Texas acquaintance Ruth Hyde Paine, suggesting that Marina should move in with her in Iriving, Texas until she had her baby.

If Marina agreed to move in with her, Paine said she should write a return letter in care of "Arthur Young, Paoli, Pennsylvania."

Now I had never heard of Arthur Young, but I did know that Ruth H. Paine did pick up Marina in New Orleans in late September, 1963, and took her and the young girl and their belongings - including the rifle, to Texas, while Oswald went to Mexico City.

While you won't read it in the Warren Report or any other book I can think of, Ruth Hyde Paine took a summer vacation in her Chevy station wagon, vising her family in Ohio and the extended family of her husband Michael Paine.

Ruth H. Paine was particuarly close to Michael Paine's mother Ruth Forbes Paine Young, and spent time with her on the Forbes family's private island off Woods Hole, Massachusetts, where Walter Cronkite sometimes put in aboard his sailboat.

Ruth Forbes had married Michael's father Lyman Paine, a radical founder of the Trotskyite Communist Party in the USA, and was a close personal friend and traveling companion to Mary Bancroft, granddaughter of the founder of Barrons and Wall Street Journal.

Ruth Forbes was traveling with Bancroft aboard an ocean liner when Bancroft met the Swiss businessman who she would marry, and it was while living in Switzerland where she met and became a primary assistant and paramour of OSS officer Alen Dulles.

After leaving the Forbes island off Massachusetts Ruth Hyde Paine visted Michael's mom and her husband Arthur Young at their 300 year old colonial farmhouse outside Philadelphia.

That's where Ruth H. Paine must have received a letter from Marina Oswald in New Orleans agreeing to move to Texas with her because after leaving the Youngs in Philadelphia, she visited her sister in DC and father in Ohio before picking up Marina in New Orleans and taking them with her to Texas, while Oswald went to Mexico City.

"In care of Arthur Young," was all that Ford noted in his book, but it was enough for me to start digging into the question - Who is Arthur Young?

From my home in Ocean City, New Jersey, I found his phone number listed in the public directory and gave him a call, and he answered. I introduced myself as a reporter and journalist from the Jersey Shore, and requested an interview.

He requested that I order and read his two published books before I interviewed him, and I agreed.

"What is your purpose?" he wanted to know.

So I explained I wanted to write a feature article about him, a profile, with a special emphasis on his role in the invention of the Bell Helicopter and his unique philosophy.

While he agreed, he said he doubted that any reputable publication would publish anything about him, as he thought himself too controversial, and that proved to be true.

A few weeks after our phone coversation, after I read his books, I drove alone to the Young's colonial era farmhouse on the Brandywine Creek, not far from the Philadelphia's classic Main Line neighborhoods. It was at the lost battle of Brandywine when a Scottish highlander sniper got General Washington in his sights, but declined to take the shot that could have changed the course of history.

Michael's mom, Ruth Forbes Paine Young, now old an frail, was sitting in the garden with a young women talking quietly while I followed Young into his book lined living room and study and sat in adjoining loung chairs by a fireplace. I asked him if I could tape our conversation and he agreed, so the cassette tape recorder was placed on a small tea table between us.

Before we began Young asked me if he could chart my horroscope and when I agreed, he asked me my date and place of birth, and continued jotting down things as we talked.

The son of two fine painters from Gettesburg, Pa., Arthur Middleton Young was born in Paris on November 3, 1905. His father Charles Morris Young was teaching art in France when he was born. One of his mother's watercolors graced the far wall of Young's living room.

Young considered himself self-educated even though he graduated from Princeton with a degree in mathamatics in 1927, he considered the Ivy League school entirely unsuitable for what he wanted to learn. He did recall a professor who introduced him to oriental art, and taking a physics course on the theory of relativity, arguing over the role of time in the equation.

While Einstein and others considered time a constant, Young believed it to be a variable. "Treating time as a dimension as though you could make a map of it. But time brings surprises, novelities, and there is no way to formulate these things. You talk about space, something you can measure, points on a plane and distances between them. Then we talk about space and time and the interval between them, but it still portrays time as though it can be laid out on a map."

"There was a death in my family," he explained. "It was tragic, and it showed me that time brought surprises. And I couldn't reconcile that with relativity, but I felt that in studying the theory of relativity I began to construct my own theory of the universe which was based on structure. In trying to formulate these things, I changed my theory from a theory of structure to a theory of process, to emphasize the change of time, and now I call it a theory of process."

As a student at Princeton, where he majored in math and physics, Young said he occassionally crossed paths with Einstein, but didn't engage him in conversation. Philosopher Henri Bergson did argue with Einstein about his concept of time, Young said. "And I agree with Bergson, although I don't know if Bergson would agree with me."

After graduating from Princeton in 1927 Young said he wanted to develoop his own theory in response to the theory of relativity, but he decided to invent something first in order to better understand the laws of nature. "I had to apprentice myself with nature, and decided to do something practical to learn how nature works."

Going to the Patent Office in Washington D.C. Young reviewed the status of the most intriguing scientific developments of the time. "I had all sorts of ideas and scruitinized the field of invention, and thought about thigns on the horizon - color television, stereophonic sound, color photography, but it all seemed to easy to develop, and I didn't want anyone to get there before me."

He settled on vertical flight because there was less competition and the problems in developing the helicopter seemed more easily surmountable.

"You know how you have text books with questions and the answers are in the back of the book?" Young asks. "Well I thought it was like that, and I could just look up the answers by trying it with nature. I allowed myself fifteen years, and it took eighteen years before I could surmise it was successful."

After digensting all of the published technical material on the matter, most of which he found was in French, and for the most part useless, he realized he had to start from scratch.

THE FIRST DRONE

"Since I couldn't afford to make a large full scale helicopter, and the fact it would take longer, I began with models in 1928. I made a 20 horsepower one, and it blew up three times. I waisted about ten years on that model alone and realized it wasn't the right way."

"There are a number of ways to make a helicopter - you can have the roters coaxial, you can have them what you call side-by-side or you can have them in tandem. The main problem with a helicopter is correcting the torque. I tried to correct it at first by having the rotor have little rotors pulling it around, so there is very little torque on the fuselage."

Over a period of 14 years, in the colonial era barn in the backyard of his Paoli, Pennsylvania farmhouse, Young experimented with model helicopters, overocoming a successioin of "instructive failures."

"It was a process of self-education," Young said. "I discovered the problem of stress, conducted all kinds of experiments myself, and my machines all blew up. I'd start them and hide behind the woodpile."

One model  was electric powered, five foot to scale controlled by 13 wires and a cable. "I had to take the rafter supports out of the bar to make room for the flying models."

Young (From The Reflected Universe) : "Many of the problems in the development of the helicopter involved this sequence: finding what happens, the laws or regularities, and rerouting one's course to make the same laws work to help; as when a carpenter planning a board discovers he is working against the grain and turns the board around....I also found in the helicopter an example of how evolution works. I found by experience that without purpose, without a goal oiented activity, the helicopter could not possibly have evolved."

While other helicopter designers flew helicopters before Young, including Focke in Germany, Sikorsky in the United States, they did not have the controlled flight needed for routine and safe operations. Young invented and pattened critical components, including the stabalizing bar, that allows for controlled vertical flight. Young's pattened inventions are a part of every helicopter just as every airplane contains components pattended by the Wright brothers.

"Sikorsky is really the father of the helicoper in this country," says Young, "and I owe a dept to him because he siad the simpilist way to correct the torque is with a tail rotor, and I was influenced  by him to go with the tail rotor model. So I went back to the little models to test that and found they were still unstable in flight, and that led to almost a year before I found the stabilizing bar acts like a pole. That gave me a stable model, so when I could fly out the barn door and back again, that's when I knew I could take it to a big company."

At the dawn of World War II Young was drafted into the Army at the age of 36. With in-bread Philadelphia Quaker beliefs, Young didn't want to fight.

"I didn't see how much use I was going to be to the Army," so he took his little flying model to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio and gave the military brass a demonstration and that got him out of the Army.

"The reason I went to Bell is because I had been dreaming about a converter plane and the Bell Airacobra appealed to me. Then this doctor, Dr. John Sharpe of Bryn Mawr (Pa.), I don't know why, but he became a visitor. He had developed a gear and asked me where he could present it, and I said to try Bell. So he went to Bell (Upstate New York) and he found they didn't know much about gears. But he did tell them about the helicopter going in and out of the barn door. And Jack Stricter, the man there at Bell, said to come up and visit them, so that's how I got to Bell."

With an invitation to visit Bell, Young took his model helicopter and a film of its progression to Bell Aircraft plant in Buffalo, New York. There Lawrence Bell's secretary told him Young he had ten minutes to make his presentation. So Young took his model helicopter out of the black box in the middle of the factory assembly line where they were making Aircobra fighter planes (they sold to Russia), and began playing with it.

As the little model flew around the huge factory the mechanics and engineers stopped their work and Mr. Bell came out to see what the fuss was about, so Young flew the model over Bell and landed it at his feet.

Young showed his film to Bell in his office, and eight hours later Young was in charge of a new division of Bell Aircraft - Bell Helicopter, and assigned to build a full scale model of his flying helicopter.

Young: "Here was a big aircraft company making pursuit plans for war, and Larry Bell had the vision to see that ultimately, they would have to have another product. And he was sufficiently impressed that this would be a future market. After some time "We got a factory in a garage in Gardenville, New York, some distance from the main plant. I got my own mechanics and engineers, - there were about 25 of us. Bell complained  I didn't have an organization chart, and it was because we were working together - you could say spiritually, that we didn't need no organization chart. Everyone just fell into place."

Nor did they have a blueprint. Normally, airplaines are designed on paper first, and then built to specifications, but in this case, the helicopter was built from the scale model, and then the parts drawn on to a blueprint, backwards from the traditional approach to aircraft design and construction.

"We just attened to it for several years without any distractions,"  Young said. "It's easy enough to put a helicopter together, but then you have to make it work. We got the thing out the door and to take off in six months, but then it took two or three years to get the bugs out, to get the engine to stand up and solve all of the difficult problems."

"I had the lathe set by the window, so the mechanics could look out and see the helicopter flying, but they didn't bother to look. They were too interested in their own work. I realized that people have differnt perspectives, and you should respect their perspectives. I don't think anybody, including myself, realiized the impact of what we were doing. We were too busy trying to make it work."

"When my friends asked me of what use a helicopter would be, I got tired of trying to answer that question. I said you would be able to oil weather veins, but that wasn't so absurd because the first use of the helicopter was to blow due off cheries in a field. But nobody would have dreamed of that use."

Other early uses of the first Bell helicopter were the inspection of pipe lines, fire fighting, and best known for taking wounded soldiers off the battlefiend in Korea, as portratyed in the movie and TV show MASH.

The Bell Model 47D1, with its familiar girders and glass bubble, was completed in 1942 and was the first helicopter to be licensed to fly commercially by the Civil Aeronautics Board in 1946. Like the Aqualung, the helicopater came too late for World War II.

The very first prototype helicopater was last flown in 1947 and made into a popular display at the Franklin Insitute in Philadelphia, where schoolchilidren climbed in and out of it. It was later moved to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. and in 1986, because of its functional design, was considered practical art and put on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

"My father would have turned over in his grave because he hated modern art," Young laughed.

After the prototype production model was finished they began the assembly line manufacture and Young consider his work at Bell complete.

Young: "When you have the prototype launched, that's when there are no more changes. We were giving people rides, and it helped morale, but there was no sense sitting around, so that's when I decided to do what I really wanted to do, which is philosophy."

Young also took up yoga again, "But the thing that really blew my mind was dreaming a dream of the future which was very accurate. I was very intrigued with all of these things like future dreams, telepathy, ESP - extra sensory perception, prediction, radionics, astrology, and things like that."

"I got some prectice falling asleep in classes in college, and I began to study the images that come to you at the moment you fall asleep. They often concern something you are thinking about, and can be used to solve problems. With dreams you're asleep and can't do anything about it, but with images you wake up, and are right on the edge."

It was at the conclusion of his work at Bell when Young hooked up once again with Ruth Forbes, who he had previously met in 1939. "A mutual friend invited me to go to her house at Naushon Island, off the coast of Massachusets."

"There was no thought of marriage when we first met. It wasn't until after I had quit the helicopter, that's when my whole life changed," Young said reflectively.

In 1948 in Reno, Nevada, Young was granted a divorce from his first wife Priscilla Page Young.

"I was fond of her, but there was something missing. Ruth was willing to go into these things like radionics and Scientology."

Radionics he said, "is the use of a blood spot to diagnose and treat patients from a distnace," while scientology is the quasi-religion founded by H. Ron Hubbard.

Young and Ruth Forbes were married in 1948, but didn't stay with Scientology.

"I must admit, Scientology was a brilliant technique, but it got into a fascist racket with sever rules, and I didn't get much out of it."

With Ruth Forbes Paine Young, they launced what Young calls his "Gee Wiz" perioid, in which they investigated all of the things outside the realm of traditional science including radionics, ESP, yoga and astrology, which is the subject of Young's next planned book - a work-in-progress. (Kelly notes: I don't know if this was ever published.)

In 1949 the Franklin Institute recognized Young for his role in the development of the helicopter when he was awarded the prestigious Franklin Medal for his use of models to test unproven ideas.

"I worked with models because it was easier and cheaper," he said, "and I'm still trying to find a student to teach how to do that so it won't die with me. I've had adequate recognition for my helicopter work, it is my philosophy that bothers them." Them being traditonal scientists and academians who reject his radical and unconventoinal beliefs.

In Philadelphia in 1951 (BK: The year I was born), Young established the Foundatation for the Study of Consciousness "to promote the study of metaphysics," that would formally examine the esoteric things that he was concerned with. He also went back to Princeton to lecture, but his syllabus was too diverse. Was it mechanics, physics, metaphsics or all of them?

"The suggestion of such an overall course crossed so many departmental boundries they said they just couldn't do it," Young said bitterly dejected. "A professor doesn't want a general theory coming across his province, his soverign territory."

The bureaucrats in Washington were just as stuffy about his Foundation as the academics at Princeton were about an interdisciplianry course.

As he explains it: "I found that I couldn't do anything without having a committee or professor approve it. The U.S. government you see, doesn't want people to do things that aren't conventional. It was suppoed to be tax exempt but I found myself so restricted by this that we disolved the foundatoin and started over again in 1972 with the Institute for the Study of Consciousness."

Based in Berkeley, California, Young spends the summer and fall at his Downingtown, Pa. farm house and resides in California from November until spring. In California Young gives a lecture a month at the Philosophical Research Society, elaborating on his philosophy to interesed students. He has also written two books about his still developing Theory of Process - The Reflective Universe and the Geometry of Meaning.

Young is also the author of the less technical Bell Notes, which is based on the journal he kept while working on the Bell Helicopter and describes his conversion from physics to metaphysics.

Considering its founding in 1951, a decade before the general popularity of such things, Young said his institute should not be confused with the "consciousness movment" of the Sixties and Seventies. "That was drugs and alternate states of consciousness, and I'd already experienced that with yoga. It was more of the business of how to account for that kind of thing - how to explain it. I didn't experiment with drugs like LSD, although I always meant to, I just didn't get around to it. My wife's grandson introduced me to psilocybin (mushrooms), but I found it wasn't much different to what I could do consciously with yoga."

- This could be Michael Paine`s son?

With the completion of his work at Bell Young departed both the company and traditional science, devising his own unique philosophy of life.

Young: "First of all, it isn't my philosophy. It's reviewing ancient teachings in light of modern science, and visa versa. We begin with a concept of length, we go out and measure things and then we have a theory. As a scientist you have this concept of length....If you have a line of time, it goes on forever. So how do you measure length? You have to have another dimension that cuts across the linear dimension in order to say where it begins and where it ends. That means you invoke this other dimension across it, and as soon as you have that other dimension you have space - that is level one - dimenstion - the point that has direction. And the cutting that off, the stopping of the film to see where things are."

"Stages is what my theory contributes - first to conquer time, that's what the trees and plants have done, - they've conquered time by producing seeds that grow and produce more seeds. Direction and purpose is levil one, followed by substance, form, goal, mobility, organization and objects. The pattern of process also contains seven kingdoms of light, particles, atoms, molecules, plants, animals and  man."

Young says there is a connection between science and ancient myology and astrology, and he found astrology more encompasing than science. When I first arrived Young asked me my birthday and place of birth - across the river in nearby Camden, NJ.

Young drew out my astrology chart while we were talking, and said, "I don't give readings. I'm not a qualified astrologer, I've just been studing the subject and like to do charts of people I'm associating with. Currently I'm working on a book about astology, and it's been about forty years since I've taken up the study. The book is about "nested time," when you correlate what happens thirty days after birth to what happens thirty years after birth. It isn't used very much now, but it was used by the ancients and it brings out a totally different approach to astroloogy as against science. It brings time into the equation and is not so much trying to reconcile it with science as it is showing its more comprehensive nature than science."

"You might see in a play what take a lifetime to live, or you read a book in two hours, or see a game, and the timing is just right. If it isn't, the winner is the one who times it the best. Time is very important, but it has differnt rates. And that gives you and idea of what I'm doing now."

"I can cope with astrology because I have a lifetime of records. I have sixty years of records, dated, because I'm an inventor and that's what I've done."

Young said that he was working on Volume #57 of his personel journal, each with over 300 pages.

"With these records I can test the astrology from my life. It doesn't mean that it will work for somebody else, but I can't do somebody else. It's incomprehensible from a scientific point of view, but the universe is doing all different things and a chart is the schedule of our lives. These things check out, and they're not in conflict with the self, they're opportunities."

Looking up from my astrology chart he had drawn out as we talked, Young said: "You are at the turn at which I was at when I left Bell and began to inquirer about the secrets of the universe. The time that I was successful was when the sun went into the first house and I was independent of Bell. I'm not suggesting that is what is happening to you, but that is what I am getting from this chart. The signifiance here is more specific because it's position is an awareness of something. But this is a differnt level, more subtle. Capricorn is rules, regulations, control, responsibility, boundaries, and is mainly what science is, with an emphasis on laws. But it is going out of Capricorn, so it will be more open."

Young looked at me quizzicaly and asked if I was an alien.

At first i though he mean an illegal foreign alien, like from Ireland, but then he asked me, "Are you an extra-terrestial from the Pleiades? Your chart indicates you might be from the Pleiades, and that is the kind of stuff that turns up in astrology."

I think he was kind of disapointed when I told him no, but asked where the Pleiades were located, and he said about 200 million light years away in the Taurus constellation.

Young: "There's this group called SETA - Searach for Extra-Terrestial Intelligence, They're seriously listening to radio waves night and day expecting some kind of signal or something, when ETs are right here walking around them."

People from the Pleiades Young explained, first traveled the speed of light. "Time stops at the speed of light, so they first conquired the speed of light, so they conquured time, and went forward in their own civilization to a point where they borrowed spaceships from their future, spaceships that could travel anywhere in the universe instantaneously." He then snapped his fingers in click.

According to Young they travel first in "Beam Ships" - a spacecraft from the future, which they park just outside our solar system, the Mother ship. Then they use flying saucers to get to earth.

"They go almost the speed of light within our solar system," Young attests, "and it still takes a couple of hours."

When Young sensed my incredulity and disbelief that aliens were walking among us he got up from his chair and took a book off the shelf from a wall that was full of books, and said the aliens had been photographed and interviewed.

Young said, "They don't want their picture taken so as not to be recognized when they move among us, but one female, whose mission was over, she was going home, so she allowed herself to be photographed."

Opening the book and turning the pages he points to a slightly out of focus photo of a beautiful blonde babe. A wow!

Looking at the cover - "UFO Contact from the Pleiades" by Lt. Col. Wendelle C. Stevens (USAF Ret.), the book relates the results of Steven's case study of aliens who befriended German farmer Billy Meier and used his fields as a landing zone, complete with pictures.

Young said the Pleiadeans, who look like us, were not the only aliens among us,  but there is also another race of aliens they call the `Grays` who are short and roundish with big eyes like the aliens in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and what crashed at Roswell.  And Young said they don't like each other and are at war. So we are in the middle of an inter-galactic war between alien races and don't even know it!

When I mentioned that a friend of mine thinks the whole flying saucer phenonema was a military psychological warfare ploy to fool the public and protect the U2 spyplane and other special experiments, Young said, "Well if you don't believe it there's no sense in discussing it any further."  There was no antimosity in his voice though.

Changing the subject to his wife, and her work with the World Federalists and International Peace Academy, Young said she was in the early phases of memory loss and was not up to discussion. "She wanted to promote something that would get people to work together," but Young thought that  was very difficult because they have to have some specific purpose.

We walked  into another room of the old farmhouse where Mrs. Ruth Forbes Paine Young sat on a couch taking quietly with a young lady who smiled.

I thanked Mrs. Young for her work with the United Federalists and in establishing the International Peace Academy (IPA) at the UN, both of which strive for world peace, and she smiled a humble thank you.

She said she thought it significant that the helicopter was used to save lives, like at the MASH unit in Korea, and thought her husband should be recognized for that contribution.

Young then led me outside to the barn, a very big brick and oak building, big enough for a basketball court. This isn't the barn where he developed the model helicopters, that was the victim of developement some time ago. "That's progress," Young said, but this colonial era farm house and barn in Downingtown, near the Brandywine Creek, is very similar to the old farm near Paoli, all of which are in the wealthy area of suburban Philadelphia known as The Main Line, as it is on the main train line.

Some of his wife's paintings - Ruth Forbes Paine Young was also an artist, and some of her paintings were hanging in the barn-studio, along with an old classic car and a model helicopter. An assistant named Larry had made a copy of an early model for display purposes.

We then descended into a damp basement where he showed me some of the machines he used to test the stress of different model parts, and gave me an 8 x 10 black and white photo of him flying a model tied to a teather at the old farm.

As we walked to my car Young mentioned his attempt to put life back into science.

"Consciousness is a bad word in science," Young said, "but how did you get here? You drove a car.  Well the Greeks knew about position, geometry, but they had no science of motion. They had no formula to treat velocity, which Newton provided by saying that velocity is the ratio of space and time, miles per hour, feet per second. The rat of change of position is velocity and the rate of change in velocity you can have a fre is acceleration, but what's acceleration? They call it jerk, or a change in the force, but it never occurs to them that it is the intervention of the person behind the wheel, or bringing a consciousness into the world of mechanism. So science invented a vehicle without anyone in it."

"What that makes it possible to start talking abut life," said Young, as I got into my vehicle, "because life is when nature begins to control itself. This is the beginning of a formal science of life. Science describes things, but they don't have a true science that explains life. All of the philosophers and scientists discuss free will verses determination, and they argue whether or not you can have a free will in a universe dominated by law. But without determination you couldn't have freedom. Determination is for use, not something that enslaves you."

"It's because the car behaved according to laws that you were able to get here," he concluded, and waved goodbye as I drove back down his winding, dirt road to the highway home.

A few hours later, as I drove across the bay causeway to Ocean City late that night, giant double shooting starts - meitors flashed across the sky together as if in formation, and disapeared over the ocean horizon, making me wonder if that was a good omen, as the ancients believed, a sign of some momentus happening, or were they perhaps my long, lost cousins visiting from the Pleiades.

The next day, in that pre-internet era, I got Wendelle Steven's phone number from the public directory in Arizona and gave him a call. He picked up and I asked if it was the Wendelle Stevens who wrote the book on UFOs Contact from the Pleiades?

Yes, same guy, so I asked him if I could buy a copy of his book. He said it was out of print and asked me where I had seen it.

Arthur Young showed it to me I told him.

Ah, yes, Arthur, how he is? He asked.

Still plugging away, I said, before asking if the UFO Contact froam the Pleiades was all true?

Sure, Stevens said.

Knowing he was a Lt.  Colonel in the Air Force, I asked him if he was involved in Project Blue Book?

That's where he first got interested in UFOs, stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio until he retired in 1963.

I told him I graduated from the University of Dayton, so I was familiar with the area.

Who was your commanding officer? I asked.

Why that was Air Force General Charles P. Cabell - The brother of the mayor of Dallas at the time of the assassination, who failed to convince JFK to commit a second air strike during the Bay of Pigs and was fired for it.

I gave Stevens my contact info to buy a book when it was in l again, but I never heard from him again, and now have his obit, as well as Young's obit and his wife.

Since then however, I learned two things that I would have asked them about had I known them at the time.

Ruth Hyde met Michael Paine in Philadelphia at a folk dance, when he was working with Arthur Young,  and Young got Michael a job at the Bell Helicopter plant in Texas, where he became the primary benefactor to Oswald,  the accused assassin.

At the very moment of the assassination of President Kennedy at Dealey Plaza, Michael Paine was in the Bell Helicopter cafateria a few miles away eating lunch with a fellow employee and we're discussing political assassination! That was an ESP experience that Arthur Young would have appreciated.

Then I read in Mary Bancroft's book Autobiography of a Spy, that Michael's mom, Arthur Young's wife Ruth Forbes Paine Young, had accompanied Bancroft on an ocean liner to Europe when Bancroft met her futhre husband, a Swiss businessman. That marriage put Bancroft in position in Switzerland to meet and work with Allen Dulles.

That's when they worked with Nazi officer Hans Bernd Gisivious in the plot to kill Hitler that culminated in the July 20, 1944 bomb attack at the Wolf's Lair headquarters that failed. While thousands of people were executed, Gisivious escaped thanks to false papers smuggled to him by Dulles and Bancroft.

I was disapointed in myself for not asking Mrs. Young if she knew fellow World Federalists Priscilla Johnson, who attened a Main Line college nearby, or Walter Cronkite, who often put his sailboat into the Nashaun Island harbor owned by the Forbes family.

Ruth Forbes Paine Young also founded the International Peace Academy at the UN, directed by a military general from India, an organization that trains young leaders in peaceful crisis management by enacting role playing scenario games.

I worked with the US Army for two years engaged in similar role playing scenarios, and recall a scene in the movie "Thirteen Days," about the Cuban Missile Crisis, when Bobby Kennedy asks national security advisor McGeorge Bundy if there were any other possible options other than going to war, as all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had recommended. And Bundy reluctantly replies that Yes, the war game scenarios they previously ran included one option - a blocade. And that's what they did.

In any case, while Arthur Young was one of the most eccentric characters I've ever met, and I've known a few, I now think that it is his wife - Michael Paine's mother, Ruth Forbes Paine Young is the one who held many of the secrets to the universe that I am still seeking.

MORE TO COME ON THIS - STAY TUNED - I will typne in more as time allows. This is from six pages of type written notes and a partical transcript of the tape.

Using Dad's Guns

USING DAD's GUNS

The most recent mass school shooting in Texas where a young man used his father's legal weapons to kill his schoolmates reminds me of a JFK incident that could have saved JFK's life, but didn't.

In the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) publication Prologue (Summer 2000), Jeb Byrne wrties, "The Hour Before Dallas - A Recollection by President Kennedy's Fort Worth Advance Man."

According to Byrne, (Secret Service Agent Mike...) "Howard says that every floor and window in a tall building facing the parking lot where the President was to speek on Friday morning was thoroughly checked. Occupants were asked to keep their windows closed on November 21-22, but on Thursday afternoon a policeman spotted an open window on an upper floor. Howard says that two teenage boys in a law office were using a scope to get a closer look at preparations in the parking lot. The problem was that the scope was mounted on a hunting rifle belonging to the father of one of the boys, an attorney in the office. The rifle, taken from an office bun case, was not loaded. It was determined that innocent curiosity had compelled the boys to take a magnified look at the parking lot activity through the scope. The father was notified and the weaponry in the office safely locked up."

Bryrne also fills us in on some other interesting tidbits, and most significantlly gives us the name of the White House Communications Agency (WHCA) officers who set up the mobile White House communications system.

Along with Byrne on this detail were the lead SS Agent for the Fort Worth part of the trip William L. Duncan, his assistant Ned Hall, and the WHCA operations officer Maj. Jack Rubley, and Army Capt. Bill Harnett. Harnett was junior to Rubley who, "was along on the trip to give Harnett his 'check ride' in performing WHCA duties on an overnight presidential stay."

Byrne: "The Secret Service agents and I went out to Carswell Air Force Base for a meeting with the commanding officer Brig. Gen. Howard W. Moore. He contended that because Carsell was a Strategic Air Command base, the public would not be allowed to enter to observe the President's arrival and departure. I argued that an exception should be made, that it was highly unusual occassion, and that the people of Fort Worth area should have the opportunity to see their President come and go. Eventually, Carswell was opened to the public for the visit: no doubt weightier voices than mine were responsible for the reversal of the original, negative decision that I had reported to Washington."

Now we can look for the reports from SS AIC William L. Duncan, and the two WHCA officers Maj. Jack Rubley and Capt. Bill Harnett.

The Truth in Our Lifetime - Some Positive Attributes of the Extension of the JFK Act

The Truth in Our Lifetime - Some positive attributes of the Extension of the JFK Act.

It is very disturbing that the JFK Act - the law of the land is not being enforced today, a fact that should make it relevant to everyone.

When Warren Commission chairman Earl Warren was asked if the secret records on the assassination would be released to the public he replied, "Yes, but not in your lifetime."

And now it may not be in ours, as a lot of people, many of whom are not alive today, worked very hard to get the JFK Act passed by Congress and reluctantly signed by President George Herbert Walker Bush on October 26, 1992.

The law prescribed that all of the government records on the assassination of President Kennedy be released in full to the public by October 26, 2017, twenty-five years to the day Bush signed it into law. When he signed it however, Bush added a rider to the law that provided the President - and only the President, with the authority to continue withholding certain records beyond the October 26, 2017 date on the grounds of national security, where their release would harm American interests.

There are also a number of assassination records that fall into specific categories that are exempt from the JFK Act provisions - over 500 records are being withheld in full under sections 10 and 11, special "deeds of gift" and grand jury records, as well as IRS tax records.

The "deeds of gift" records are those that have been donated to the National Archives and stored in the JFK collection but are restricted by the donor, and these records include William Manchester's notes and papers he used to write his book "The Death of the President," and individual oral history recordings and transcripts such as Jackie Kennedy's memories and beliefs, that are restricted by the Kennedy family.

The IRS laws take precedence over the JFK Act, so individual tax records are totally exempt, though Marina Oswald reportedly agreed to allow her family's tax records be released, and the very first document I read from among those recently released in the October 2018 batch is a good example. In reading the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) report on an interview with former Louisiana State policeman Francis Fruge, a single social security number was redacted, and one that is not important.

The rest of the document is extremely significant however, as it confirms most of the facts concerning Rose Cheramie, the women whose story is told in the opening scenes of Oliver Stone's film "JFK."

Found unconscious on the side of the road outside the Silver Slipper saloon in rural Louisiana, Cheramie told officer Fruge, who drove her to the hospital, that she was with two Cubans on their way to Dallas to kill Kennedy and do a drug deal when she was thrown out of the car. After JFK was killed a few days later, Fruge re-interviewed her, got the details of the drug deal, all of which he confirmed, and showed her mug shots of some Cubans and she picked out Sergio Aracha Smith, a New Orleans Cuban who came into play in the Garrison investigation. The owner of the Silver Slipper saloon, a roadhouse bar, also confirmed that Sergio Aracha Smith was a customer who was in the night Cheramie was there. Cheramie was later found dead, on the side of the road, run over by a car, another suspicious death.

While I had seen a redacted version of the same HSCA report, this one was only missing the social security number.

And as I perused other documents in this 2018 batch - what the Archives calls "The Final Release," though more are expected by October 2021, I found that every document I reviewed was significant, and I will be going over them in detail in a later report.

But that one document is a good example of an IRS redaction.

Another Section 10-11 exemption are Grand Jury records. All grand jury records are supposed to remain secret forever, as they include hearsay testimony and defense attorneys are not permitted in the room to cross examine witnesses, as the proceeding serves as a preliminary hearing prior to the indictment of someone for a crime that will go to trial.

There was a Dallas grand jury convened to indict Oswald for the murder of JFK, but instead indicted Jack Ruby for the murder of Oswald, a Dallas jury that included the first women, as grand juries were traditionally only men.

Then there was the New Orleans grand jury, the records of which were ordered destroyed by New Orleans District Attorney Harry Connick, who took over after Jim Garrison left that office. But the guy Connick told to destroy them recognized their historical significance and kept them secure until after the passage of the JFK Act, and then turned them over to the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB), that declared them JFK records and included them in the JFK Collection at the Archives, over the protests of Connick.

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) says that there are over 500 such records being withheld in full that fall into these categories exempt from the JFK Act, they also note that a federal judge can rule to have them released, if someone will make a case for it.

The main body of records released in the latest October 2018 batch - nearly 20,000 documents, fall into the Section 5 category of national security.

And while only some 5,000 of these were released in full, President Trump deserves some credit for ordering all of them to be released in full or in part, as the agencies had requested most of them be withheld in full. Instead, Trump must have told them to release them all, just redact the sections you want to remain secret, and that's what they did.

Instead of just getting the RIF#, agency of origin, subject matter and reason for withholding the record, we get the entire document - with redactions.

Now some of these records, like the HSCA Fruge report, were released before, some of those recently released contain redactions that were not redacted in previously released versions, so that tells us that whoever is doing the redactions on these records did not know they had been previously released without the redactions.

In addition, many of the names and places that are redacted in these recently released version, are known or can be easily figured out - so it is like playing a game of Wheel of Fortune where you have to count the spaces and guess as to what it says until you get it right, something that can be done.

Some of the best researchers who have studied these records for years - Peter Dale Scott, John Newman, Malcolm Blunt, Rex Bradford, Larry Hancock and others, have already figured out the codes and crypts and have already filled in the blanks of the puzzle, so its a game that can be won.

I believe President Trump did the right thing by ordering all of the Section 5 national security records released, even if they are only released in part, as it gives us something to work with and can be figured out.

There are other positive attributes of the latest Presidential directive, as by withholding records and redacting them until further review in October 2021 keeps the issue alive, and by annoying the public at large for skirting around the JFK Act, and could inspire Congress to hold the necessary oversight hearings that could put on the hot seat those administrators who intentionally destroyed assassination records, and determine what became of the many missing records.

While usually, such Congressional hearings are conducted as publicity stunts to improve the image of the lawmakers and those they call before the TV lights, as the Facebook hearings were, they could become serious investigative hearings like Watergate, and the truth could come out.

In the end, the truth will come out, its just a matter of whether it will happen in our lifetime.
